It's been a while since we've seen any new Star Wars-related material from Robot Chicken, but the wait is almost over.

The Robot Chicken Season 9 trailer shown during Comic-Con already revealed parodies of Westworld, Black Mirror and more. Now, the Robot Chicken crew have announced something very exciting: Season 9 will also feature Rogue One and The Force Awakens!

Check out that Season 9 trailer below:

'Robot Chicken' Star Wars, But Not As You Know It

There's no denying that 's special is all kinds of awesome. But while you might have enjoyed their version of some of the sci-fi franchise's most iconic scenes, don't expect to see the same formula applied again.

Robot Chicken co-creator Matthew Senreich told Screen Rant that the only reason they'd been able to make such a close replica to the original films was thanks to George Lucas' permission:

"He saw our show and he was the one to approach us, like, 'What do you guys want to do with us?' It started a multi-year relationship. When he sold the company to Disney, it changed the relationship."

Senreich says that despite any positive relationships that may exist between Disney and Adult Swim, they're still one of a few "billion dollar companies that could care less what we think and how well we know each other."

So how are they going to proceed? Through the eyes of one of the most memorable Robot Chicken characters, of course:

"It's definitely our nerd character's perspective on 'Episode VII'. I think he represents the fans, the good, the bad, and the ugly about that one. We have a couple of other little things I’m trying not to spoil. There’s some fun Darth Vader stuff coming up. Some fun Vader stuff that ties into Rogue One that I really enjoyed."

By focusing on single skits throughout the episode rather than trying to parody exact scenes from Star Wars, Robot Chicken can still explore the new films while avoiding any potential lawsuits.
