They say that life imitates art. Well, in the case of The Fate of the Furious, it seems to be completely true.

As we've all known for the past year, there has been plenty of heat between franchise stars Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson while filming The Fate of the Furious. Now they reportedly aren't even willing to market the film while in the same building.

A Brief History Of Beef

It all started back last March when Johnson posted this photo on his Instagram, accusing some of his male costars of being unprofessional "candy asses":

"When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I'm not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling - you're right," Johnson wrote.

But it didn't end there. A few months later, Johnson uploaded this to his Instagram:

In the bio, Johnson gives praise to people from Furious that he's worked with, from Scott Eastwood to Natalie Emmanuel to Tyrese Gibson. However, one notable star was missing from that list: Vin Diesel.

This came off as a bit of a shock, with Diesel being one of the most prominent people in the Fast and Furious franchise. Soon afterwards, Diesel made a Facebook video featuring costar Michelle Rodriguez — and again, shade is thrown at unspecified people, but you can put two and two together.

There Hasn't Been News About The Feud Since Then — Until Now

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two are being kept separate during the press tour for The Fate of the Furious. As an insider put it:

"They're keeping them separated as much as possible."

Studio sources were quick to tell THR that the stars' beef won't cause any problems or affect the movie's marketing campaign in any way:

"What happened is over, and no one expects there to be any lingering effects. When it comes time to promote the movie, this will have no bearing."

However, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas today, we didn't see Johnson at the Fate of the Furious panel, even though he'd been at the convention for the past two days, which would seem to confirm THR's report. Nevertheless, both are required to appear together on April 8th for the New York City premiere of the film.

It remains to be seen whether the stars' beef will affect the film's box office. Audiences may even show up just to see their real-life friction on the big screen. Who knows, maybe this feud is part of the Fate of the Furious marketing campaign itself?

After all, there was a staged rivalry between Mickey Rourke and Chris Jericho to promote The Wrestler, culminating at WrestleMania XXV in 2009. Perhaps we'll see The Rock and Vin Diesel in the squared circle before this is all over? (If, that is, they're willing to enter the same room together.)

The Fate of the Furious opens April 14th, 2017.
