Warning: This article contains spoilers of The Flash Season 3, Episode 5 "Monster." Oh, and what you're about to read is "frosty" to say the least.
One of the major repercussions of Barry Allen's timeline meddling this season is Caitlin's slow transformation into Killer Frost. When Caitlin was first introduced in the pilot, comic book fans knew what lay ahead for her, but last season, we all thought she was safe from the frosty fate when her Earth-2 doppelgänger Killer Frost showed up. However, now that Barry has significantly altered the main timeline, Caitlin's fate has also been reshaped. And it was revealed in the second episode of the season that she was destined to become the icy metahuman. And as we saw on this week's installment, Caitlin has no problem channeling her icy abilities when she gets angry.
However, there is one person who might be able to save Caitlin from venturing down her cold path — and that is none other than her husband Ronnie Raymond. Now I know what you're thinking: Ronnie died at the beginning of Season 2 when he and Professor Stein's merged Firestorm body saved Central City from the singularity. While Stein survived and found a new other half in Jefferson Jackson, Ronnie was gone. So that begs the question, could Ronnie return and help Caitlin use her powers for good instead?
Did Ronnie Actually Die?
We all claim that Ronnie Raymond died, but do we actually have any proof of this? I mean, Firestorm ripped the quantum splicer off his chest — which exploded and help shut the wormhole — which separated both true #superheroes Professor Stein and Ronnie Raymond. While a falling Stein was rescued by the Flash, Ronnie was never to be seen from again.
It's highly possible that Ronnie was just sucked into the singularity — a singularity that was responsible for opening 52 breaches to another earth — and he may have even just ended up in an alternate earth. There is an entire multiverse out there!
His death really affected Caitlin and caused her to become a little colder than before. Of course, she had her friends to help her through it but Ronnie was her life and after all this time, I just can't shake the feeling that we haven't seen the last of him. I certainly hope not.

Affection Slows The Icy Effects
As we saw on this week's episode of The Flash, Caitlin visited her mother for help. And although Dr. Tannhauser did indeed do her best to help her, she studied Caitlin like a subject rather than her daughter. This did not help Caitlin in the slightest, and when ambushed by her mother's protege, she almost went full-blown Killer Frost on him, freezing his arm. However, it was her mother that stopped her from doing so, and the two shared a brief affectionate moment which ended up burying the demon within Caitlin.
In fact, the moment Dr. Tannhauser apologized for the way she had treated her daughter, Caitlin's killer yellow eyes disappeared and she returned to herself. It goes to show you just how much a little affection can warm a "cold" heart. And if this is the case with Caitlin, there is nobody that is more affectionate towards her than her husband, Ronnie. When the two of them were together, you could see in their eyes just how much they loved each other.
So, with Ronnie being mentioned once again this week, it's possible that The Flash is building towards a potential comeback for the beloved character. And we certainly hope so, because nothing can melt ice quite like fire.
They Won't Go Down The Same Road Again
When Killer Frost showed up as Caitlin's Earth-2 doppelgänger, many of Danielle Panabaker's fans were relieved to know that this was basically proof that Caitlin would not need to meet the same frosty fate. However, the Flashpoint timeline's side effects are quite frankly shocking, because it's hard to understand why they would make this happen again, let alone so soon to the last time it happened.
So, it's obvious that they definitely have something up their sleeves. They will not be retracing their old steps and Caitlin will not become the evil white-haired, cold blooded menace that her Earth-2 doppelgänger was. And Danielle Panabaker's contract as a series regular ensures that Killer Frost will not be reduced to a "villain of the week." There's definitely more to it than that.
And that's why I have a feeling that Ronnie may be involved. After all, even the Earth-2 Killer Frost could have her heart warmed by Earth-2 Ronnie — Deathstorm — so it's highly likely that Ronnie is the only person to save Caitlin from becoming the murderous Killer Frost on Earth-1. And there's no way that the good-hearted Ronnie Raymond would support the idea of his wife committing potentially evil deeds like his Earth-2 doppelgänger, so it's possible that if he were to return to #TV, he could make her see sense.
With Caitlin on the verge of completely losing herself during her transformation to Killer Frost, there's only person who can stop her from following in the footsteps of her murderous doppelgänger — her "dead" husband Ronnie Raymond. The former vessel of the Firestorm matrix was Caitlin's main reason for smiling and if there's anyone who can warm her cold heart, it's Ronnie. Whether he showers her with affection or cancels out her ice with his fire — we need Ronnie Raymond more than ever!
Could Ronnie Raymond return from the "dead" and save his wife from becoming Killer Frost? Let us know in the comments!
