Rosario Dawson is fantastic. Whether you're a fan of her work in the Defenders shows, or you loved her in Rent, or you just really dig her Twitter account, there's no denying that Dawson is as cool as she is talented. She's also a gigantic nerd (she even knows Klingon!) and a huge fan of Star Wars, even the animated shows. A few months ago, this prompted one of her Twitter followers to ask the actress if she would ever consider playing fan-fave Jedi Ahsoka Tano in a live action #StarWars movie.
Dawson enthusiastically agreed, even talking about it during an appearance on Good Morning America. And now, Dawson wants us to know that she's still interested in playing Ahsoka whenever Lucasfilm feel like giving her a call. Not only that, but the actress teased which version of Ahsoka she'd like to play by retweeting an intriguing fan theory...
The original Tweet from fan Brian Snook contains a fan-made concept art of what Ahsoka might look like after the #StarWarsRebels Season 2 finale. And his fan art comes with some fascinating speculation.
Ahsoka Tano first appeared in the animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars as Anakin Skywalker's padawan. She instantly became one of Star Wars' most popular characters outside the movies, thanks to her spirited nature and excellent character arc. Her popularity lead to her inclusion in the next animated series, Star Wars: Rebels, as well as a book detailing the events of her life after she left the Jedi Order.
Rebels Season 2 brought Ahsoka face to face with her old master, now Darth Vader, in a charged and emotional battle sequence which left her survival uncertain.
Fans have been campaigning for Ahsoka's return for over a year, and she's rumored to return in Rebels Season 4. But Snook's fan theory takes a different route, posturing that Ahsoka's "death" at the end of Season 2 allowed her to fulfil her destiny as a custodian of Mortis — a reference to a key plot in The Clone Wars.
In this arc, Anakin, Ahsoka and Obi Wan were transported to a realm known as Mortis, which exists within the Force itself and acts as something of a conduit. There were three figures that guarded this realm: the Father, the Son and the Daughter. While the Son represented the dark side of the Force, the Daughter represented the light. All of this is still canon, which has lead many fans to speculate about how the Mortis might affect The Last Jedi, which will supposedly develop a lot of Force lore.
So with that in mind, it would be very fitting for Ahsoka to make her big screen debut as the new custodian of Mortis — and it would be even better if Rosario Dawson were the one to bring Ahsoka to the silver screen.
She's ready, Lucasfilm. Let her play Ahsoka. Please.
