Ryan Reynolds is no stranger to poking fun at his own first (and even second) failed attempt at superhero-dom. So, when he appeared on The Late Show, stretched out on a blanket in a comedy sketch with king of late night TV Stephen Colbert, we knew a joke at his past characters' expense was on the horizon.

After reflecting on what they'd do if they only had one day to live, deciding what would be written on their grave stones, and pondering what cats dream about, the conversation drifts to superpowers. Reynolds asks:

"Hey Stephen, if you could have any superpower, what would it be?"

To which Colbert responds:

"Oh, I'd like to have this super cool, alien, high-tech ring. And it's green, and it has a lantern on it. And I can use my imagination to make anything out of green light!"

Meanwhile Ryan's face is like:

He then bitterly responds:

"Wow. That's a really dumb superpower."

Still sore, eh? Will he ever be absolved of this sin?

Ryan Reynolds has made a bit of a habit of joking about his role, as well as his first appearance as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. These jabs even appeared in a deeply meta way in 2016's hugely successful Deadpool movie, which saw Reynolds gloriously return to the role to do it justice.

But Ryan's sticking to basics for his own superpower, because all he wants is, as Colbert terms it, "courage bladder":

"Well, I'd like to pee in a public urinal when someone's standing directly behind me."

That's the spirit, Ryan. You truly never disappoint.

Oh, and btw, he was on The Late Show promoting ' sci-fi thriller Life, which also stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Ferguson. Check out the trailer:

hits theaters March 24.
