If you grew up in the '90s, then it's highly likely that you spent a large portion of your time watching Sabrina The Teenage Witch. Based on the Archie Comics series of the same name, the beloved sitcom focused on young witch Sabrina Spellman and her enchanting aunts Zelda and Hilda. It was a fixture of Friday nights and made a household name out of star Melissa Joan Hart, before it came to an end after seven seasons.

Now, Sabrina may be set to make a huge comeback. According to Variety, Warner Bros. Television and The CW are developing a new series based on the character for the 2018-2019 season. Unlike the 22-minute episode sitcom, this outing will be a one-hour drama series based on the darker Archie Comic series The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina; it reimagines Sabrina's origin story as a dark coming-of-age narrative, focusing more on the horror elements of the occult than the character's traditional stories.

The potential series is expected to focus on Sabrina's fight against the forces of evil that threaten both her and the mortal world around her. Furthermore, it will be developed by the team behind The CW's freshman hit , with Greg Berlanti's production company returning to produce. Much like the upcoming Sabrina series, Riverdale took fellow Archie Comics characters and placed them in a dark and thrilling world in which they were forced to solve a murder mystery.

From Boston To Riverdale?

While the Sabrina comic series was indeed set in Riverdale, the beloved sitcom was set in the fictional Boston suburb of Westbridge, Massachusetts. However, as this new drama will serve as a companion series to The CW's Riverdale, we have to wonder if the Sabrina series will be set in the same universe, and if it will be an official spinoff?

After all, Greg Berlanti is no stranger to spinoffs; he is the executive producer of the CW's Arrowverse which consists of superhero shows Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC's Legends Of Tomorrow. With Berlanti expected to serve as executive producer on another Archie Comics-inspired series, you can see why are wondering if the two shows will be set in the same universe.

Ever since Riverdale debuted, there have been rumors that we would see the arrival of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. But none of us expected to see a series devoted to the iconic character, mainly because the original series was so beloved.

With the talented team of Riverdale behind it, we have no doubt that The CW will so Sabrina proud. Let's just hope she uses her magic powers to get the series greenlit for the 2018-2019 season.

Are you glad that we may be getting another Sabrina series? Let us know in the comments below!
