The #JohnWick films were more than just a treat for fans who were nostalgic for the merciless action movies of yesterday - they were also a massive success at the box office. Add to that the fact that both films in the franchise received high praise from both audiences and critics and it's no surprise that anticipation is already high for #JohnWick3.
However, one particular fan of the franchise isn't just excited about the third installment, he reportedly wants in on the action and than fan is none other than Samuel L. Jackson.
Fury Wants To Meet Wick
In the latest episode of Meet The Movie Press, reporter Simon Thompson talked in-depth about what Samuel L. Jackson had to say about the John Wick movies and his future as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (#MCU). But Jackson was more enthusiastic about the prospect of joining John Wick 3 than he was about his time as the one-eyed director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
When Thompson asked about the rumored Nick Fury solo movie, Jackson instead brought up his desire to play a part in the continuation of Keanu Reeves' action-packed comeback.
Thompson: He [Samuel L. Jackson] wants to do, over a Nick Fury movie, 'John Wick 3' with Laurence Fishburne and Keanu Reeves. He absolutely loves the 'John Wick' movies. He wants in. He doesn’t want in, he wants in with a capital IN. Seriously, I think he will do whatever he needs to do to get in on 'John Wick 3.'
Jackson currently has a nine-picture deal with Marvel as Nick Fury, and he only has two movies left in his contract before a contractual renewal is brought to the negotiating table. Nick Fury may be integral to the MCU, but his character hasn't been able to do much outside of assemble the Avengers and maneuver through some red tape for them.
If Jackson is indeed bored with his Marvel role, it's more than understandable why he'd be seeking a change of pace at this point in his career and the creative minds behind John Wick's adventures would be fools to turn him down. Adding a badass of Jackson's caliber to the next film would be exactly what the franchise needs to take it to the next level.
The Badass MoFo And The Continental
John Wick essentially takes place in a badass comic book world where hired hits and sharp suits are the order of the day - a world that's also populated by some of the most colorful characters to ever grace a modern action movie.
Jackson's signature onscreen presence would prove beneficial to the world of John Wick since his bravado and potential F-bombs would fit right in with the likes of the mute, but deadly bodyguard Ares (Ruby Rose) and the eccentric informant known as the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne). As each installment expands Wick's world, the doors are open wider for new characters to enter the franchise and no one would fit this movie mix better than Jackson.
As exciting as this possibility is, there has currently been no official quote from either Jackson or the John Wick team. We currently only have Thompson's word that Jackson wants to be in the next sequel. Hopefully this is all true because whether he's a villain, an old friend, or part of the Continental, Jackson has a lot of potential to make the already great John Wick films even more entertaining.
