After decided there wasn't enough gas in his tank to take on Fast & Furious 6, Universal wasted no time in finding a new director to fill the driver's seat. Deadline is reporting that Saw helmer has begun negotiations to direct the seventh installment of the high-octane franchise and they expect a deal to be reached before the end of the week.

Lin's departure led to a host of names being linked to direct the movie, with Wan beating out competition from the likes of (Kick-Ass 2) and (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Karate Kid).

Wan has made his name mainly with horror movies, having directed Saw, Dead Silence and recent horror-hit Insidious. He also has a shining endorsement from Lin, who said:

I’m extremely proud to be part of the Fast franchise, it is an experience I will always treasure. It’s time for me to move on to other things and I’m thrilled that Universal and Neal [H. Moritz, producer] have selected James Wan to lead the franchise into its new chapter.

From scares to street racing. Do you think Wan is the right choice to take on Furious 7? Let me know your opinions. [[poll]]
