With all the talk about Resident Evil 7 returning the Resident Evil franchise to its roots, it's nearly impossible not to get caught up in some comparative thought. While Resi 7 has remained well within the spirit of the earlier games, its shift to first-person has been a polarizing but impressive (and welcome) switch from the norm. It's got us wondering how a similar move would have changed the classics.
The Original 'Resident Evil' Gets The 'Resident Evil 7' Treatment With This First-Person Camera Mod
Modder Rod Lima has released an extension of his original first-person adjustment to the Resident Evil intro. He's now included the first moments of the earliest parts of the game, including the first zombie encounter. The result is both mesmirizing and just a little creepy.
How does a first person #ResidentEvil hold up? See for yourself.
Compared to Resident Evil 7, there are a number of factors that keep this mod from making things too frightening. The extreme elements of unpredictability that make Resi 7 the stressful mess that it is are not present in Resident Evil.
Sometimes zombies charge you and things get pretty harrowing, but for the most part, you know that no one is going to break down a wall to get you or grab your face in an attempt to crush it.
Nevertheless, with some extra polish, modded Resident Evil could be nearly as scary as the latest entry in the series. Fortunately, according to his YouTube, adding polish is exactly what Lima intends to do.
gonna add RE sounds, fix weap mesh close to CAM, [since original] animations were made not taking that in account
While Lima currently has no intention of making this mod playable, it's an entertaining look at what could be—and what could have been all along.
