There's always room for another killer on the small screen. True Detective, HBO's new crime series comes across as The Killing on the bayou, a sinister noirish take on the serial killer genre.

The story follows Martin Hart () and Rust Cohle (), detectives embroiled in the seventeen year pursuit of a Louisiana serial killer. The stylish production for True Detective is suitably chilling, garnering a lot of hype for its release. Check out the first official trailer below.

It's about time HBO got a new thriller up and running. Showtime have Dexter, NBC have Hannibal, CBS have Criminal Minds and Fox have The Following. I am a big fan of the crime genre in any form, from Poirot to CSI, so I'm looking forward to True Detective.

After the slickly produced but not very scary Hannibal scored highly in the ratings for NBC, it'll be interesting to see how HBO's new project fares. Will you be watching True Detective? Does it look thriller or filler? And when did Matthew McConaughey's face get so thin?

True Detective will debut on HBO January, 2014.
