The Daily Bugle viral site that has been set up for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been the gift that keeps on giving...maddening hints. After teasing a slew of Spidey villains, the latest offering from the fictional paper offers the most tantalizing Easter egg yet: Will She-Venom make an appearance? A recent "article" reveals the fate of Dr. Curt Connors (you know, Lizard from the first film), and name-drops an interesting character in the process:

The trial of Dr. Curt Connors came to an end as the former geneticist for Oscorp Industries was found guilty on all twenty counts for which he was indicted, including the murder of NYPD Captain George Stacy.

Connors and his attorney, Anne Weying, were unable to convince the jury that he was not responsible for his deadly actions while transformed. His defense that he only injected himself with the serum that changed him into the Lizard to prevent Oscorp Industries from experimenting on innocent civilians did not sway the jury.

Next stop: Rikers. But even that is controversial. Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane has said their facility is better served for housing and studying a prisoner such as Connors, but the judge has yet to rule on where Curt Connors will spend what is likely to be the rest of his life.

If you read through all that and don't understand what the fuss is about, then pay closer attention to the name of his lawyer: Anne Weying is known in the Spider-Man canon as being the ex-wife of Eddie Brock - you know, Venom. In fact, Anne herself at one point bonded with the alien symbiote when her life was theatened, turning her into the powerful creature known as She-Venom.

Granted, most of these rumors and names mentioned on The Daily Bugle's site have simply been world-building, and we probably won't see most, if any, in the actual film. But with the news that the long-awaited Venom movie is a go, the marketing for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been getting closer and closer to that character all along, with Anne Weying/She-Venom being the closest link yet. Do you think they're teasing an actual Venom appearance in the film? Let me hear your thoughts.
