Six on History is a war drama based off of the real events of the Navy SEALs elite SEAL Team Six. The team was originally developed in the early 1980s and works as a counter-terrorism unit.

To give you a better idea of the types of top-secret missions they are sent on by the president himself, SEAL Team Six was behind the execution of Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan in 2011. The History Channel is hoping to have a hit on their hands following the success of their first scripted series Vikings and reviews and ratings from the first episode show good signs of it being just that.

In Six, after team leader Richard Taggart (Walton Goggins) is booted from the team for controversial decisions during missions, he is captured by Boko Haram in Nigeria and held hostage with the terrorists unaware he is a Navy SEAL. When his former teammates are made aware of his capture, they make it their mission to rescue him. Six really enforces the fact that your brothers and sisters in uniform are family and no man is ever left behind. So are the SEAL Team Six members and who plays them on TV?

  • Character in Six: Richard "Rip" Taggart
  • Age: 45
  • What You Know Him From: Justified, The Shield, Sons Of Anarchy

Goggins was 19 years old when he moved to Los Angeles to be an actor. His breakout role came from starring as a detective in FX's The Shield for seven seasons. However, it was his role as Boyd Crowder in FX's Justified that earned him an Emmy nomination for Outsanding Supporting Actor in a Drama. Goggins was cast in Six after Joe Manganiello (True Blood) dropped out of the role, presumably due to being cast as Deathstroke in Ben Affleck's Batman film.

In Six, Goggins is "Rip" Taggart, whose years as an elite Navy SEAL begin to take a toll on him, resulting in him leaving Team Six. When he is captured by terrorists Taggart's only hope is his previous SEAL Team Six to bring him home. Of working on Six, Goggins told Collider:

"It was a lot to be incarcerated for 14 hours a day, with your arms bound and your feet bound. I’m sure someone will do a YouTube of how many times Rip Taggart was hit. It was tough, mentally."

Sloane plays the co-leader of Seal Team Six with a questionable temper. As Joe Graves, he is fiercely loyal to his SEAL brothers, primarily Taggart, for which he leads the charge to rescue. On his intense training for the show, Sloane told the NY Post:

"[The instructors] came in the room, dragged us downstairs in the middle of the night and sprayed freezing cold water in our faces and started asking questions, interrogation-like. I had a moment where I literally was like ‘F–k this.’ I had a breaking point.”
