By now, we've all seen the tense new trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier that promises the sequel is going to be as much a taut political thriller as it will be a capes-and-crusaders superhero flick. Already, we can see Steve Rogers/Captain America starting to draw his Civil War-esque line in the sand as he begins to question whether national security is worth citizens giving up their freedom.
Now that that's whet our appetite, the news breaks that we have even more to look forward to: Fandango has confirmed that a five-minute long "extended look featurette" will run prior to Thor: The Dark World. However, there's a catch: It will only run before the Thor films in 3D, so buy your tickets accordingly if you're itching to get a sneak peek at what Cap has in store for us.
It makes perfect sense, says David Hollis, EVP of Theatrical Distribution at Walt Disney Studios:
After Marvel's 'The Avengers', the Marvel films are more interwoven than ever, and this pairing is the perfect complement to both of the new movies. 'Thor: The Dark World' is going to be an exceptional theatergoing experience, and this sneak peek will really rev fans up for the return of not only the Mighty Avenger but the First Avenger as well.
Personally, I'm pumped for both. The first films in each franchise were solid, but not spectacular - after all, they were origin stories, and there's only so much you can do with that. But the sequels look poised to drive the storylines of each in some seriously unexpected ways, making for two extremely different films that nonetheless complement one another and continue to build on the storyline started with The Avengers.
