As Sons of Anarchy rolls into Season 6, the Jax Teller () at the head of SAMCRO's table is a very different man from the one we got to know in the first season of the FX biker show. There wasn't all that much to Jax at first besides blond hair, a bobbing behind and a totally confused expression...
But, speaking to journalists at last week's Comic-Con about his "matured, calmer [and more] thoughtful" character, Hunnam revealed to Digital Spy that he's a whole lot more going on nowadays:
I never feel a responsibility to keep Jax likeable. Because I think it would be a disservice to the complexity of the character. [But] He hadn't really anticipated just how difficult it is to rule and to make choices that are going to affect everybody. It's a tremendous amount of pressure.
And if you were wondering whether he'd perhaps started transforming into the very thing he detested the most, after beating his enemy to death with a snow globe, Hunnam added that he does not find it difficult to tap into Jax's "dark side":
It's not like I don't have my own dark side. I spend a lot of my time trying to not go there, because it's an unhealthy place for me to be, but I come from a very hard area and my father was an incredibly hard, brutal man. I feel very close to the propensity for violence and to go to a dark place. But I'm very fortunate that I got out and don't have to have that as a currency in my life.
I'll probably avoid Hunnam in and around souvenir stores, just to be on the safe side...
Five blood-soaked seasons under our belt, and if Jax is again in the midst of some highly structured manipulation of his enemies, that won't be anything new. But I sure as hell can't wait to see whatever gritty new storyline 's got in store for Sons of Anarchy Season 6. What about you?
