Has your life been feeling a little empty as of late? Say, ever since December of 2014? It's hard to believe that it's been more than two years since #FX's record breaking Sons of Anarchy finished its final run, but more than two years it has been.
After seven seasons, six years, and a hell of a lot of burnt tarmac, Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter and his wife Katey Sagal (the actress behind Gemma Teller in SoA) moved onto his next project, the short-lived The Bastard Executioner. But Sutter — who also portrayed Otto Delaney in SoA — has now returned to the highway in the run up to production beginning on the hotly anticipated #SonsOfAnarchy spin-off show, Mayans MC.
There's been very little chatter available about the specifics of the spin-off show itself, with not much news coming our way from the producers. But it looks as though the wheels are finally starting to turn. As it stands there are currently no cast members officially confirmed, but principal casting does now appear to be underway over at FX.

Relative unknown Ian Lassiter — a Broadway actor at the beginnings of his screen career — Tweeted a video at Sutter that was then picked up by Harold Perrineau, who played the bloodthirsty and ruthless Damon Pope on Sons of Anarchy (no, we're still not over Dawn, don't ask). And the video seemed to confirm that casting is now underway for the new series.
The video message was intended as a follow-up to an interview Lassiter supposedly had with Sutter, in which Lassiter reaffirmed that he is the man to play a character called "Raf" in #MayansMC.
As we currently only know the name of the main character in Mayans — EZ Reyes — this little reveal was a pretty interesting one, as it likely means that Raf is a main player given that he's being cast at this stage in the game. Lassiter seems pretty confident that he's a shoo in for the part, but we'll have to wait and see.
Don't get too excited though, because this is as yet all unconfirmed. But given that we're only a month away from March, which is when Mayans MC is slated to shoot its Pilot episode, according to official reports, it seems likely that we should start getting some official casting news soon.
The Mayans MC Pilot episode will be directed by #KurtSutter, with the script penned by Sutter and Elgin James — the Mayans MC co-executive producer. Here's what we know about the plot so far (via Variety).
'Mayans' will follow EZ Reyes, a "prospect" — potential member — for the club’s charter on the California-Mexico border. EZ will struggle with his desire for vengeance against the local cartel and his need for the women in his life to respect him. 'Sons' fans will recognize the Mayans from 'Sons of Anarchy,' where they were sometimes allies, sometimes adversaries to the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club’s northern California charter.
The series is tentatively suspected to premiere in the Fall of this year, but until we get an official line on the subject, there's no way to say for sure. All we can say is, we're pretty damn excited to see Sutter riding again alongside the Mayans. Just keep an eye out for the Irish.
