As the Marvel Cinematic Universe moves closer to Avengers: Infinity War, we know where all of the Infinity Stones are...except for one: the Soul Stone. Many people speculate that it will finally appear in Thor: Ragnarok, which would make the most logical sense, as Thor will be exploring the galaxy in that movie.

But what if it's actually on Earth? What if it's with the Kingdom of Wakanda? Here's why that may be a distinct possibility.

Speaking To The Dead

The Soul Gem is a pocket universe, and its owner has access to the souls of the dead trapped inside. This makes sense for Thor: Ragnarok because Hela, the main antagonist of the film, is more or less the queen of the dead. But the Black Panther also has a unique connection to death and the afterlife.

In Captain America: Civil War, T'Challa (Black Panther) says to Black Widow after the murder of his father, "In my culture, death is not the end. It's more of a stepping off point." T'Challa and previous Black Panthers before him have the unique ability to communicate with those who have held the title of Black Panther and have since passed on. This is used for guidance and helps keep the current Panther on the right track.

It has been hinted that this dynamic will carry over into the Black Panther solo movie. In the comics, the explanation is due to the mystic nature in Wakandan culture. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken to streamlining elements to help fit its narrative. For example, the Eye of Agamotto in Doctor Strange houses the Time Stone, while in the comics it does nothing of the sort. Who is not to say that there is something in Wakanda that houses the Soul Stone?

It Explains Why Black Panther Would Join The Infinity War

This would help set up Black Panther and Wakanda in the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. We know the character is expected to appear in Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel, but what exactly brings him into the conflict?

His allegiance in Civil War was more neutral than anything, only aligning himself with Tony Stark due to a mutual goal and housing Bucky at the end because of his own sense of honor.

"Avengers business" is not necessarily his business at this point. What better way to bring Black Panther into the mix than by having Thanos come knocking on his door?

Whether the Soul Stone is on Earth or somewhere else is currently unknown. But we do know that Black Panther will stand with the rest of Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy to fight off the Mad Titan.

You can expect T'Challa, one of the world's smartest men, to have a certain insight regarding the Infinity Stones. Whether he has firsthand knowledge or not, his help will still be valuable to the Avengers. Wakanda has never been successfully invaded; maybe thanks to Black Panther, that undefeated record will go for Earth as well.
