Dust off those platform shoes and practice those vocals, because the Spice Girls' movie Spice World is returning to theaters in the U.K. this September in honor of the film's twentieth anniversary. (If you feel super old right now, realizing that 20 years have passed, join the club.)
#SpiceWorld hit theaters in 1997, and the band's official Facebook announced the news of a rerelease to celebrate the anniversary. Fans of the girl group living outside of the U.K. might be sad to hear that this is not yet planned worldwide — but fear not, the organizers are working to spread the celebration.
Critics may not consider Spice World to be a masterpiece, but it became a cult classic for fans, as it brought together Scary (Mel B.), Baby (Emma Bunton), Posh (Victoria Beckham), Sporty (Mel C.) and Ginger (Geri Halliwell) for a musical comedy unlike anything we had ever seen. The wacky film featured Meatloaf as the group's bus driver and even had an appearance by aliens, pointing to the fact that, yes, the girls were in on the jokes and were having a blast not taking themselves too seriously.
The rerelease is set for Friday, September 29th, across cinemas in Britain. Tickets will be sold up until September 24th — but act fast. Spice Girls fans are a dedicated bunch as tickets are reportedly selling like wildfire. Here's hoping that other countries get their chance to celebrate the film before the year's end!
