The very first Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer dropped yesterday and so far, fans' reactions have been extremely positive. Even though Peter's new journey in the is just starting, turns out it won't be long before he takes on a new adversary.

Deadline is reporting that the Culver City studio has announced Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 will be hitting theaters on July 5, 2019, less than two years after Homecoming. On a side note, because of this, Bad Boys 4 shifted dates from July 3 to May 24, 2019.

When the deal between Marvel and Sony was first announced, it was stated that they planned to release a brand new trilogy set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's not uncommon for films to receive sequels weeks before they actually premiere, especially with comic book ones; the surprising thing here is that Homecoming 2 has been greenlit from good reception to the very first trailer.

That tells us two things: One, and are incredibly confident with their project, and two, they most likely already have a notion of where they want Peter to go in the MCU, especially with them teasing the Sinister Six's introduction in the trailer. Something that I find really interesting is the release date, because it coincides with a certain epic superhero event. So...

How Will 'Homecoming 2' Be Affected By 'Infinity War' And 'Avengers 4'?

Homecoming 2 will be released just two months after Avengers 4 and, at that point, Infinity War will have passed. While his appearance in those movies hasn't been confirmed, it's a safe bet to say Spidey will be part of them. So, how will those events shape his sequel? Before Age of Ultron was released, Kevin Feige said this:

"The Avengers films, ideally, in the grand plan are always big, giant linchpins. It’s like as it was in publishing, when each of the characters would go on their own adventures and then occasionally team up for a big, 12-issue mega-event. Then they would go back into their own comics, and be changed from whatever that event was. I envision the same thing occurring after this movie, because the roster is altered by the finale of this film".

Obviously, one of Marvel's most prominent characters is Spider-Man, which makes it unlikely for them to leave the superhero out of the ' new roster. The question is how Homecoming 2 will deal with Spidey's possible new duties and how his cosmic experiences will shape him.

He would no longer be the naive Peter Parker we were introduced to in Civil War and will see in Homecoming after being exposed to such massive events. However, even though that gives the character the opportunity to grow, we shouldn't expect Peter to be completely mature in his second film, as Kevin Feige has expressed his desire to keep him young as long as possible.

Unfortunately, because Homecoming is still seven months away, we don't have a lot to speculate about, but one thing's for sure, Spidey will be swinging back to theaters in 2019.
