How exciting is it that we're getting not just the first #Marvel Studios backed live-action Spider-Man movie this summer, but also that Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man will be appearing alongside him in his first main cinematic outing? Very exciting, that's the answer.
Ever since the trailer dropped and sparked the excitement that began when we first saw the web-slinger in Captain America: Civil War, #SpiderManHomecoming has become the hot blockbuster to see this summer. If you somehow missed the trailer, you can check it out below.
The trailer didn't just give us a better look into Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) high school life, it also gave us more of the fantastic interaction between Peter and Tony Stark, as Spidey sets out to prove himself as a hero, and an Avenger. The trailer also revealed that — true to tradition — it looked like Iron Man would be suiting up with a brand new set of armor for Homecoming.
And now we've gotten a better look at his armor thanks to the classic Marvel Cinematic Universe leak system — toy merchandising. A new image posted to IG appears to give us another look at Spider-Man, #Vulture, and Iron Man as they will appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming. While Spidey and Vulture look pretty similar to how they appear in the trailer, Iron Man appears to be wearing a whole new shiny suit. Check it out below!
And the box art confirms that this isn't just an unfinished paint job. Whilst the red and gold of #IronMan's usual scheme still permeates the top of his armor, from the chest down a new silver colour covers the suit.

Silver and red isn't a new one for Tony Stark in the comics, but it is for the #MCU (the multitude of suits we saw in Iron Man 3 aside). In the comics a silver and red color pattern goes back as far as the '80s with the Silver Centurion armor, a staple of Tony's wardrobe. But the one we see here is very similar to the Ultimate Armor, from the very weird and short lived Marvel Ultimates universe.
The Ultimates universe wasn't very popular. A darker take on the Marvel Universe set on Earth-1610, Ultimate saw a lot of weird and horrible stuff happening (including a Black Widow and Iron Man sex tape). On top of this, silver always brings to mind the Endo-Sym symbiote armor that Tony wore in the polarizing Superior Iron Man, which featured a manipulative and "evil" aligned Tony Stark following the events of Axis.
Does this mean we'll see a harder, slicker version of Tony Stark in Homecoming after the tragic events of #CivilWar? Or did Tony just feel like shaking things up a bit for his run with the younger generation? We'll find out soon enough, as Spider-Man: Homecoming is set for release July 7, 2017 in the US.
