Spike Jonze's Her is now one of the unexpected early frontrunners in the awards race after being named as best movie of the year by the National Board of Review.

The organization also gave Jonze the award for best director, for the quirky "Spike Jonze romance" flick starring as a sad sack office worker who falls in love with his warm-hearted computer system voiced by (in all fairness, I could fall in love with her voice...).

The award gives Jonze's movie some early support in an awards season that is shaping up to be pretty unpredictable, to say the least. Whatever happens, I have faith in Her: Jonze is notorious for his odd and groundbreaking ideas, from the infamous video for Fatboy Slim's Praise You to his adaptation of 's children's classic Where the Wild Things Are.

What are you saying... Oscar glory?
