Game of Thrones Season 3 may be close to ending, but production already seems to be well underway for Season 4. Yesterday, an audition tape was leaked online which seemed to show Dutch actor auditioning for an important role.
Unfortunately, the HBO lawyers have struck and removed all existence of the video from the internet. Luckily, before that happened we managed to grab some revealing tidbits which we can extrapolate into actual news. Kind of.
Firstly, van Wageningen was auditioning for the role of Styr, the Magnar of Thenn. Styr is a Wildling raider who leads a large component of Mance Rayder's army. Technically he should already be in season 3 of GoT as he appears in the books at around the same time as Mance himself. However, it seems HBO skipped the character in favor of rolling some of his characteristics into 's Tormund Giantsbane.
Indeed, Hivju appears opposite Wageningen in the audition video, and according to WinterIsComing.net, the two become embroiled in an argument. About what? Well, unfortunately we don't know.
Now, the inclusion of Styr in Season 4 does also have potentially important consequences for the final three episodes of Game of Thrones' season 3. If you do not want to know what that is, it's probably best you stop reading now.
OK, so Styr is instrumental in the Wildling attack on Castle Black, the last stronghold of the Night's Watch. Jon Snow is assigned to his group in the run-up to the assault which has been hinted at throughout season 3. However, the casting of Styr suggests it will not actually occur until season 4.
There's still no confirmation about these rumors or that Wageningen managed to land the role as Styr.
What do you think? Has this news disappointed you, or do you think it'll be better to wait until Season 4? Let me know below.
