(Warning: The following contains mild, Stan Lee-related speculation regarding future entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Proceed with whatever level of caution that — and, of course, your emotional investment in the surprise element of Stan-the-Man's cameos — suggests to you is wise.)
Now, Stan Lee may be one of the most iconic figures in comic book-dom, and have already filmed enough cameos in Marvel movies to spawn an elaborately geek-tastic fan theory, but that doesn't mean that he's one to rest on his laurels. Sure, Stan-the-Man may be 93, but that's no reason not to, y'know, go right ahead and film four secret cameos for Marvel Studios. Yup, that's right...
Stan Lee Has Already Filmed Four Secret Cameos For Marvel Studios
That's according to Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige, who revealed at a recent "for your consideration"-style screening of Captain America: Civil War (one aimed at getting Academy Awards voters to nominate the fan favorite film for an Oscar or seven) that Lee recently popped down to Atlanta to prepare a whole bunch of sneaky appearances. What's more, they're not going to be mere window-dressing, it seems. As Feige put it:
"We do not shoot random ones. They’re always very specific… A couple of months ago in Atlanta, he [Lee] flew down and we shot four in one day — for four various projects. They’re all awesome! They’re all totally different. And he was unbelievable. He was on fire. He came in, he sat here, he stood there, he stood in this window, and then he went home."
Which is pretty darned great news for fans of Lee's cameo-ing antics, especially since you really never know when a 93-year-old is going to have better things to do than hang around a movie set saying whimsical things.
The bigger question that raises, though?
Just Which Movies Did Lee Just Film Cameos For?
After all, there're so many upcoming Marvel movies out there, it's pretty darned tough to tell.
The most likely candidates, though, are presumably this November's Doctor Strange, and 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok. However, since its also entirely possible that Lee filmed a Doctor Strange cameo a while back, there's also every possibility that he's already got an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War in the can too, or possibly even 2018's Black Panther. With Lee having played a key role in the creation of both Black Panther and Spider-Man (Doc Strange is a notable exception, though Lee still wrote many of his earliest adventures), after all, it would certainly make sense that he'd want to be involved in their cinematic debuts in the MCU.
After all, he is Stan-the-Man.
