Ever since its release in 1977, the Star Wars franchise has constantly surprised us with its twists and turns that are hard to predict. But ever since the age of the internet, fan theories have blown up and are mostly hard to ignore. For some, they ruin the surprise of a movie; but for others, they're an exciting way to predict the future of a movie. Regardless of how you feel about them, it's hard to deny that no other movie franchise sees more fan theories than the "galaxy far far away".

One of the most talked about theories is: who are Rey's parents? All we know is that this gifted, force-sensitive girl was left alone to fend for herself on Jakku — but we have no idea why. The most obvious theory thus far has been that Luke Skywalker is her dad, and he left her there to keep her safe. I think this theory sounds too obvious, however, and I doubt they'll go down that route.

Luckily, one budding fan theorist has come up with a way for Rey and Luke to share a strong link without the explicit father-daughter relationship. However, be warned: it's a bit nuts.

Mike Zeroh's Theory

Mike Zeroh is a popular Star Wars theorist on YouTube, who has amassed over 78,000 subscribers following his various Star Wars theory videos. His theories clearly hold weight within the Star Wars community, which lends some credence to his latest theory; it might a little on the bonkers side, but it also adds up.

His theory? That Rey is a clone of Luke. Yep. Makes sense doesn't it? I mean, you still get the father/daughter dynamic between the pair because they're blood-related. And it's way less obvious than Luke just straight up being her genetic father. If you're wondering how they could've cloned Luke, Mike Zeroh's got you covered in his theory video:

"I’ve heard that maybe she is a clone of Luke Skywalker by his severed hand. Emperor Palpatine could have got that hand (and) got the DNA."

This would be a really cool way of making the movies come full circle, and tieing the Skywalker story together. Plus, this wouldn't be the first time we've seen some clones in the Star Wars universe...

You could say that cloning and clones has been a recurring theme throughout the Star Wars franchise, whether it be live action (Attack of The Clones) or in the series (The Clone Wars). At least we know with Jango Fett and the Clone stormtroopers that the technology to clone somebody is present in the Star Wars universe, which makes this theory all the more plausible.

I'd really like to see this theory come to life because for me, the idea of Luke being Rey's dad is far too obvious. I know it's possible that Rey has no relationship whatsoever to Luke, but it would be super cool if she did. We'll have to wait and see in December When Star Wars: The Last Jedi releases and we may finally find out!
