The newest Star Wars films have sparked a fair amount of debate amongst fans when it comes to their humor. While some may find it a little jarring, it's provided others with a whole new repertoire of endlessly quotable lines.
What makes those lines even more classic is the fact that some of them weren't even scripted; rather, they were improvised by the actors themselves. In a recent Q&A session on the official #StarWars Twitter, Alan Tudyk — K-2SO from Rogue One — revealed that he used his character's unpredictable personality as a free pass to improvise a lot of his own dialogue, which kind of explains why Kaytoo is such an amazing character.
Rumors of improvised lines in Star Wars have been circulating since The Empire Strikes Back. Some believe that Darth Vader's iconic "No, I am your father" was improvised. The same goes for the exchange between Han and Leia as Han was being lowered into the carbonite. Harrison Ford supposedly improvised that response of "I know"; but as with that Vader line, many deny that it was improvised.
It's hard to set the record straight with this kind of decades-old movie trivia. After all, misinformation was easily spread before Google fact-checking existed, and we may very well never find out the facts from the rumors.
Fortunately, the cast of the newest Star Wars films have been incredibly candid about their improvised lines, particularly with Rogue One. You may recognize these lines, but did you know they were actually improvised?

4. "Quiet! And there's a fresh one if you mouth off again."
Tudyk's all-time favorite #RogueOne moment was completely improvised— slap and all. That's right, Diego Luna (Cassian Andor) hadn't been expecting the assault whatsoever. And if you look closely, you can even see him fighting back a smile, which is probably why he was covering his mouth.
3. "I'll be there for you. The captain said I had to."
Thought K-2 was capable of showing compassion? Think again! Tudyk really wasn't slowing down with the improvised attitude one bit, earning him the reputation of the sassiest droid ever.
2. "Are you kidding me? I'm blind!"
According to an interview with Sky Cinema, this was Donnie Yen's natural reaction to having a bag placed over Chirrut Imwe's head. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy loved it so much that she told him to use it in the scene.
1. "So who talks first? You talk first? I talk first?"
Okay, so this one isn't from Rogue One; it's one of many lines that Oscar Isaac improvised for #TheForceAwakens. He told Business Insider that Poe Dameron was never meant to make it past the film's opening scene, which meant there wasn't a whole lot of dialogue written for him. Luckily, he was capable of crafting the perfect responses mid-scene, which made for a fairly unique first impression on Kylo Ren.
