Disney and Lucasfilm have created a ton of amazing Star Wars content for us these past few years. We've received books, comics, and toys galore. After the tragic loss of Star Wars: The Clone Wars they gave us their first TV collaboration, Star Wars: Rebels. The new show started out great and has gotten even better with each new season. Season 3 seems to be no different.
This is entirely due to the amazing team behind the show. With talented creators like Dave Filoni at the helm, you just can't go wrong. On top of that, the show features a fantastic, star studded, voice cast that bring all of our favorite characters to life. Let's take a look at the voices behind Rebels season 3!
Taylor Gray Is Ezra Bridger
Taylor Gray got his start on the Nickelodeon series Bucket and Skinner's Epic Adventures. Since then he's found roles in Thunderstruck and Walt Before Mickey. Nowadays he plays the half-Padawan, half-Rebel Ezra Bridger on Star Wars: Rebels.
Over the years, we've seen Ezra grow and learn to harness the Force. Season 3 brings new challenges though, as Ezra becomes more independent and is being slowly seduced by the dark side. We can't wait to see what lies ahead for Ezra. What could his future hold? Check out Disney XD every Saturday for answers!
Vanessa Marshal Is Hera Syndulla
Vanessa Marshal is known as a veteran voice actor. She portrayed a wide range of characters including Black Widow, Wonder Woman, and Gamora. In fact, Rebels was not her first Star Wars project. Marshal played Jedi Master Bela Kiwiiks, a major player of the Jedi Knight storyline in Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Now Marshal plays Hera Syndulla, a pilot/smuggler/maternal figure/leader of the Rebellion. Hera is one of the most interesting characters on the show and one of my personal favorite Star Wars characters. I can't wait to what's in store for Hera in Season 3!
Freddie Prinze Jr. Is Kanan Jarrus
You may have heard of Freddie Prinze Jr. Back in the '90s he starred in I Know What You Did Last Summer and She's All That. More recently he play Fred in the live action Scooby-Doo movies.
On Rebels, Freddie plays Kanan Jarrus, one of the last Jedi in the galaxy. His path eventually brought him face to face with Darth Maul who blinded him in last season's finale. Now Kanan is struggling to learn to cope with his disability. No need to worry though, the Force is strong with him.
Tiya Sircar Is Sabine Wren
Tiya Sircar may be relatively unknown at this point in time, but it's not hard to see her going places in the near future. She's had parts in 17 Again and The Internship. She currently plays Sabine Wren, Rebels' spunky Mandalorian character. Being Mandalorian, Sabine's bloodline brings in some fun plot points and gives her connections to The Clone Wars.
Last season we learned more about her lineage and connection to Star Wars lore as a whole. Hopefully we'll get even more history on Sabine in the coming episodes.
Steve Blum Is Zeb
Steve Blum, like Vanessa Marshal, is well known in voice acting circles. He's played Transformers, Marvel villains, and even a few characters on Regular Show. Steve is veteran of voice acting and has had parts in multiple Star Wars video games, which made him an amazing choice to play a part in Rebels.
Steve plays Zeb, who is believed to be one of the last of his kind. Zeb can be a little cranky, but he believes in the cause and trusts his team mates with his life. We've had a couple of episodes focused on Zeb and I'm sure there are more coming in the near future.
Dee Bradley Baker Is Rex
Dee Bradley Baker's voice will be familiar if you've ever watched anything animated. He's played characters on Spongebob, Family Guy, Phineas and Ferb, and pretty much any other animated property you've ever seen. He voiced every clone character on The Clone Wars and now he's reprising one of his most famous Clone Wars character on Rebels.
Captain Rex came back last season to fans' delight. Rex was the captain of Anakin Skywalker's clone battalion and was a close friend to Anakin and his padawan Ahsoka. Rex is veteran of the clone wars and adds a nostalgic affect to the show that we all love. Rex seems to have a bigger role this season which is super exciting. We're sure to see a lot of him moving forward.
David Oyelowo Is Agent Kallus
You'll definitely recognize David Oyelowo from his roles in Selma and Lee Daniels' The Butler. Everyone was a little surprised that a bigger name like Oyelowo would be playing a character on an animated show, but such is the power of Star Wars.
His character Kallus is the Agent of the Empire, assigned to stop the Rebels. He's ruthless and mean, but is often outsmarted by our heroes. Kallus has had some interesting development with Zeb which I'd like to see them explore more this season. We'll have to see where Kallus' story takes him in season 3.
Tom Baker Is Bendu
Tom Baker once played the most famous doctor in Britain. Yes, The Fourth Doctor has found his way into the Star Wars universe.
He plays the Bendu, a character I'm extremely interested in. The Bendu uses the dark side and the light. He is neither Sith nor Jedi. Hopefully we'll see a lot more characters like this, who aren't bound by the rules of the Jedi and Sith. I don't know how much we'll see of the Bendu but I'm hoping it's a lot.
Lars Mikkelsen Is Grand Admiral Thrawn
His brother Mads may have a live-action role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but Lars Mikkelsen is playing a fan favorite Star Wars character that's been around for two and a half decades.
Lars Mikkelsen is playing Grand Admiral Thrawn this season on Rebels. Thrawn was the main villain in Timothy Zahn's Star Wars trilogy of books which, until last year, was the story most fans held as the continuation of the original trilogy of films. Thrawn seems to be living up to his reputation as one of the most dangerous officers in the entire Empire. He's cunning and brutal and his intuition is far more advanced than even some Jedi. We all need to be very afraid for our heroes.
Jim Cummings Is Hondo Ohnaka
Cummings is a veteran voice actor known for having roles in The Lion King and Shrek. His played Hondo Ohnaka on The Clone Wars. Hondo quickly gained a fan base due to his "business man without a cause" attitude. Hondo made his triumphant return on Rebels season 2 and quickly befriended young Ezra.
Though Hondo is hardly trustworthy, he seems to have sided with the Rebellion for now. How long will that last? No one knows. But whenever Hondo's involved, expect crazy adventures of all sorts.
Sam Witwer Is Maul
You know Sam Witwer's face from Being Human and Once Upon A Time but his voice is just as famous. Back on The Clone Wars, Witwer voiced Darth Maul for his triumphant return after his apparent death. Witwer is reprising the role after Maul's eventful resurgence in the season 2 finale.
Maul was seemingly killed back in The Phantom Menace, but as we all know, he's very resourceful and not going down easily. He stirred up his fare share of trouble during the Clone Wars and now he's bringing his Sith-y shenanigans to the Rebellion era. Will Maul be friend or foe in the fight against the Empire? Who knows. At least he'll keep things interesting for our Jedi pals.
