#StarWarsRebels has had an amazing third season and has done a great job diving deep into the Star Wars mythology and pushing forward the story to the beginning of the Star Wars original trilogy. The two-part Season 3 finale had high stakes and wasn't afraid to snatch almost everything away from the Rebels.
Even though we know things turn out for the better in the end, what should we expect from the fourth and possibly final season of the epic series?
1. A New Hope
At the end of the season finale, things seemed pretty bleak for the Rebel Alliance. Their headquarters on Attolon was completely destroyed by Thrawn and the Empire and the Rebels were barely able to escape the chaos, leaving behind an insurmountable amount of dead soldiers and resources. However, this war is far from over, and #StarWarsRebelsSeason4 will showcase the Rebel Alliance searching for a new home. While a lot of you will begin speculating where the Rebels could begin building a base next, we already have the answer: Yavin 4.
While the show could definitely show us a base on Dantooine, the finale already hinted at the fact that the remainder of the Rebel fleet will return to Yavin 4 and that there is already a hidden, established base located on the surface of the fourth moon of Yavin. At the end of the episode when the Rebel crew was escaping the battle, Rex is talking about the number of hyperspace jumps they need to make in order to reach Yavin IV and to throw the Empire off their trail. He hints that there is already a main base there and that this is not the last time the galaxy will hear of the courage of the Rebel Alliance.
2. The Empire Strikes Back
After watching him patiently wait for the right opportunity to attack, Grand Admiral Thrawn was clearly the winner of the Battle of Attolon. While the Rebels were able to escape with their lives, it was only because Thrawn allowed that to happen. When the Star Destroyers were firing upon the surface of Attolon, Sabine's shield was about to burst and the Rebel crew would have transformed into ashes. However, Thrawn knew he had to keep them alive and at the end of the day, he scored a major victory.
Looking forward to the next season, we will see Thrawn continue to have the upper hand on the Rebel fleet. The Empire will only become a bigger threat and the Grand Admiral will bring in some strong advisers. We should look forward to some new and threatening faces next season on Star Wars: Rebels (bounty hunters, anyone?) along with expanded roles for some familiar characters such as Grand Moff Tarkin, the Emperor, and especially #DarthVader. 3. Return Of The Jedi
One of the things that Star Wars: Rebels does that I absolutely adore is when they dive deep into #StarWars mythology. While the show certainly hasn't revolved around the Jedi, they clearly have a large presence on the show - and we should expect that presence to expand! The series has teased Ezra's strong powers for a long time and Season 4 will hopefully take the opportunity to have Ezra serve as a full Jedi Knight (and possible Sith Lord...?).
Besides Ezra and Kanan, I believe Star Wars: Rebels will showcase some awesome Jedi moments. First of all, we have definitely not seen the last of Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi on the show, and since the show may be coming to an end soon, there's a very good chance we see the two wise Jedi masters appear sooner than later.
Also, the finale showed Bendu become one with the Force after Thrawn tried to shoot him in the head. Just like the upcoming #TheLastJedi, will we see Ezra and Kanan discover more about the Force and possibly learn about Force Ghosts? Maybe we can see some fallen Jedi masters such as Qui-Gon Jinn or Mace Windu?
4. The End
Star Wars: Rebels has done an amazing job tying-in other storylines and characters without messing with the continuity. Season 3 tied-in Saw Gerrera and a lot of plot points for #RogueOne. The producers of the series have hinted at the fact that the show will show the Battle of Scariff from the point of view of the Rebel crew we have acquainted ourselves with these previous three seasons. Like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it is very likely that Star Wars: Rebels' final battle will end with the Battle of Scariff and it will lead into the Original Trilogy.
While some could argue that the show could still go on for a few more seasons, there isn't that much more story to cover. Also, rumors have stated that Lucasfilm have secretly started production on a new TV series. Season 4 will focus on the Rebels rebuilding their alliance and preparing for their next big battle against the Empire: the Battle of Scariff. After the battle, we will see which Rebels survived and which ones didn't and the show will finally come to a satisfying conclusion.
