The third season of the hit cartoon Star Wars: Rebels was absolutely stunning and did an amazing job developing the main characters and connecting the story to the main timeline piece-by-piece. Today at Star Wars Celebration, Dave Filoni and the cast talked about Season 4 and showcased the first Season 4 trailer. Watch it below:

Dave Filoni revealed something fans of the show have been discussing for quite some time now: Season 4 of Star Wars: Rebels will be the final season:

"This show represents by no means an end to anything we are doing with animation"

This is sad news for fans of the series, but the series is better off ending on a strong note rather than dragging on.

On a lighter note, Dave Filoni heavily hinted at a new animated Star Wars series being announced soon, but he made it clear that they didn't want to take away from Star Wars: Rebels' last panel at Star Wars Celebration and the amazing trailer for Season 4. Let's break down every noteworthy aspect of this amazing new teaser for the final season:

1. 'It Was A Simple Story...'

The beginning of the trailer features a narration from Hera, describing the Rebels crew in the past tense. The way she talks about her crew, her family, is in a very depressing manner and almost like she's looking back at the war and writing down her story:

"It was a simple story... about a boy who was lost... and a girl who was broken. They fought alongside a survivor, a war veteran, and a fallen knight. I led them into battle against an evil so terrible, they tried to black out the stars. We fought for each other, we fought for those who could not, but we would never imagine it would end like this."

For what appears to be a hopeful trailer, Hera starts it off with a very depressing use of foreshadowing. Many fans have predicted that Hera would be the last surviving member of the Ghost crew, and this trailer definitely makes it look that way. Maybe the series will end with Hera and Captain Rex fighting in the Battle of Endor during Return of the Jedi, looking back at the events of Star Wars: Rebels.

2. The Rebels Move Their Base To Yavin 4

One of the biggest things the Season 3 finale hinted at was the remainder of the Rebel fleet locating to Yavin 4 to heal the Rebel alliance and prepare for the next battle against the Empire. In the Season 3 finale, we saw Thrawn and his army destroy the Rebel base on Attalon, and the Ghost crew wouldn't have made it out alive if it wasn't for Bendu's last-minute rescue.

At the end of the episode, when the Rebel crew was escaping the battle, Rex was talking about the number of hyperspace jumps they needed to make in order to reach Yavin IV and to throw the Empire off their trail. So, in the first couple of new episodes, we can look forward to seeing the beautiful Yavin 4 being translated to animation and the Rebel fleet building up their forces.

3. 'We Are The Balance, Ezra'

One of my personal favorite additions to the third season of Star Wars: Rebels was diving deep into the mythology of the Force with Kanan and Bendu. Just like Freddie Prinze Jr. was discussing during the panel this morning, Kanan will continue to train to be a patient Jedi and to make Ezra a better Jedi than himself.

"He’s still blind, but he sees more than he’s ever seen before," said Prinze. "He knows what path these Rebels need to be on, and when he finds out he has a certainty like other Jedi audiences have seen before."

It looks like Kanan and Ezra will find more creatures linked to the Force, and the story will move its focus back onto Lothal. In the trailer, you can spot a big, white, mystical wolf and ancient paintings on the wall. This was a very intriguing theme in the trailer as Ezra and Kanan might discover some important information that could change their training forever.

Perhaps Rebels will be sharing certain things with The Last Jedi and Kanan will discover that Bendu was right by saying the Jedi way isn't the right path to go down.

4. Lothal Is A Key Element In The Fourth Season

Lothal will become a main focus on the show not just for Kanan and Ezra's training in the Force, but it will be the planet the Rebel crew will try and save. Ezra lived on Lothal until he joined forces with Kanan, Hera and the Rebel Crew and after many years of adventures, their ultimate goal will be to save his home planet.

The next season is building off the Empire’s victory on Lothal that was shown in the Season 3 finale and Grand Admiral Thrawn is finally delivering on his strategic plans. The stakes will be heightened and the emotions will strengthen as the Rebel crew will be putting their lives on the line one last time.

5. The War Has Finally Begun

This may not be the most revealing trailer, but it certainly didn't shy away from the fact that this war between the Rebels and the Empire has truly begun. Like Hera said in the beginning of the trailer, this war is not going to end the way the Rebels intend it to. I believe the first half of the season will focus on the last two subjects I discussed: the strengthening of the Rebel alliance and saving Lothal.

After that, Rebels will really begin to tie directly into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the original trilogy. By the end of the season, we will get to witness the Battle of Scarif from the Ghost crew's point of view. After that, it isn't exactly clear how the show will end and how much it will bleed into the original trilogy timeline. Fortunately, we won't have to wait long as this is the final season.
