Move over Harley Quinn and Black Widow, someone else deserves your spot! And by that, I mean the spot of which female sci-fi icon deserves their own solo movie. That movie should go to none other than Leia Organa, princess of Alderaan, and General of both the Rebel Alliance and the Resistance.
The iconic role of Leia was played by the late, great Carrie Fisher, who passed away on Christmas Day at the early age of 60. Leia Organa served as an icon to the genre of sci-fi movies, from the "you're my only hope" speech, to the "short for a stormtrooper" quotes to the hairbuns she is first seen with in A New Hope. She was even brought back to reprise her role in last year's The Force Awakens.
But even with her passing, nobody is ready to say goodbye to such an amazing woman, and such an iconic character. Luckily, fans can rejoice that Leia will be seen again, as Fisher was done with filming Episode VIII before she was gone. But there is another way for her to be seen again. In fact, we already have.
With the recent addition of Rogue One, we are now starting to dive into what are being called "Anthology films" in the Star Wars Universe. Basically, they are just spin-offs for other characters telling a new and somewhat different story. We are set to have a Han Solo movie in 2018 explaining his origins, and the rumors are still at large for possibly a Boba Fett movie, or even an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, featuring Ewan McGregor, who of course played the character in the Prequel Trilogy.

But who better of a character to have their own movie than Leia Organa herself? Everything is currently available for Leia to have her own movie, it is only a matter of time as to when. But the reasons why it should happen should be the factor to what gets this movie made.
Now, before you start hating on the use of the word replacement, hear what has to be said. For starters, there is no way that Carrie Fisher would ever be replaced as Princess Leia. They will hopefully never reboot the Star Wars franchise, and will most likely not have someone else play her in Episode IX. If they didn't kill her off as well in Episode VIII, then what might happen is they may do something similar to Leonard Nimoy in this year's Star Trek Beyond.
But as said before, we have already seen a new Princess Leia, only younger, in Rogue One.
While it was the likeness of Fisher herself, it was not actually Fisher. Instead, Leia was played by Ingvild Deila, a young Norwegian actress who has been in a few small roles. But this could have simply been a breakout role.
What should happen is much like the Han Solo movie, the Princess Leia movie should be set in her younger years before the Original Trilogy. And while it is possible to continue to use Fisher's likeness, it would probably not happen, as fans were not too happy about what was done with Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One. Not only that, but Alden Ehrenreich, who is set to play the younger version of Han Solo, looks little to nothing like Harrison Ford.
Plenty of Content
As for what this movie can be about, there are plenty of options that can be used with Deila as Leia. The most logical of them would be how Leia got so involved in the Rebellion in the first place. We would see why she fought as hard as she did for what she believed in.
That would definitely be an interesting story. Surely the events in A New Hope were not the first time that she had been a thorn in the side of the Empire. It would be nice to see what she did to gain the trust of the Rebellion. Because even with her father being Bail Organa, it would be hard to become as respected as she was in the Rebel Alliance.
We've also seen in the movies that Leia knows how to use weapons. Now, anyone can use a weapon, but you must put time and practice into it to get better and become good at it. It would be interesting to see as well where she got those talents. It could be possible that she might have learned a thing or two from someone we have already seen, but happened to left the Alliance, Saw Gerrera.
From Rogue One, we know that Saw was once part of the Rebellion, but was cast out when he became too extreme to the Alliance. And seeing how tough he made Jyn Erso in the end, it would be cool to see it all connect by him training Leia as well. Regardless, there are plenty of options in how to tell a story of a young Princess Leia. Because as we have seen before, without her, the Rebel Alliance would have fallen a lot sooner.
In conclusion, especially with the recent events, if anyone were to deserve a spin-off movie, it would be Leia Organa. As we have already seen with both Rey and Jyn Erso, this is an era of badass females in Star Wars, and Leia is already badass enough. But this would simply make her look even better. We have plenty of stories to still tell, and an actress to play the part, so it is only a matter of time before it will happen. And to top off everything, here is a tweet from Deila herself when asked about the possibility of doing a Leia spin-off movie.
