In case you have been living under a rock, the remake of Stephen King's iconic novel IT opened to a jaw-dropping $189 million worldwide over the weekend. The high score for the Warner Brothers picture was not only the largest opening for any movie released in September, but it was also the highest opening for a horror movie – ever! The impressive numbers also put #IT as the second largest opening weekend for a R-rated movie, sitting comfortably behind Deadpool's $132 million.
The record-breaking opening far exceeded industry predictions, which pegged the clown film opening at around $50-$60 million. But no one was as surprised or as honored as the film's young stars, who took to Instagram to celebrate the amazing feat.
Finn Wolfhard (Richie)

Even Director Andy Muschietti Was Surprised
I made this movie with a lot of love but nothing prepared me for the love that was returned this weekend. I want to Thank all the fans of IT for being such a big part of the MAGIC of this phenomenon . Some of you saw the movie twice and even three times already. There are really no words to describe how proud you made me and all of us who made this film. I love you.
Did you see IT over the weekend? What did you think?
