Stranger Things was the surprise TV hit of last summer, and ever since, fans have been anxiously waiting for the arrival of Season 2. So far we've seen a trailer and a few stills, and it's safe to say our hype is totally justified! The trailer for Season 2 of the hit show looks absolutely fantastic: it's packed with familiar faces (and monsters) as well as an awesome '80s reference to Ghostbusters. The Ghostbusters nod came as no surprise to Stranger Things fans, as Season 1 was packed with references to classic '80s movies, music and TV shows. This got me thinking... What other awesome '80s themed references should we get in Season 2 of Stranger Things?
1. 'Back To The Future'
The '80s created a lot of pop culture icons that people still worship today. Much like Ghostbusters, Back To The Future is instantly recognizable and could make for a stellar reference. Personally, I'd love to see the kids wear some piece of clothing from the franchise, like Marty's red jacket, his self-lacing shoes or maybe his chrome hat from Back To The Future 2!
2. Indiana Jones
Another classic movie franchise from the '80s is Indiana Jones, which started with Raiders of The Lost Arc back in 1981. This adventure classic franchise remains as one of the best ever and even has a fifth on the way! The writers could reference #IndianaJones in various clever ways in Season 2; one such way would be one of the kids to dress up as Indy for Halloween. It would make sense, seeing as Season 2 is being released at Halloween. Indiana Jones has tons of iconic items that Stranger Things could utilize, such as his whip, his hat or even one of his famous treasures!
3. Michael Jackson
You can't have dozens of '80s references and not pay homage to one of the most influential people of the decade. Michael Jackson owned the '80s with his two amazing albums, 'Thriller' and 'Bad'. Like all the examples on this list, there's endless ways we could see Jackson immortalised in Stranger Things. From the music being played in the background to possibly one of the kids wearing his iconic red jacket from 'Beat It'. Or even better yet, we could see some sort of 'Thriller' recreation with the kids! How cool would that be?

4. Star Wars
Star Wars is one of the highest-grossing franchises of all-time, and it makes perfect sense for the kids to acknowledge a galaxy far, far away in Season 2. We've spotted some Star Wars nods in Season 1; Mike showed Eleven his Yoda toy and later reveres her Jedi-like powers, and Dustin constantly used his Lando analogy throughout the show. We could see lots of Star Wars integrated into Stranger Things Season 2, but the best would be to see the kids play with lightsabers or just quote the movies again. How funny would it be to see Dustin talk in a Yoda voice?
5. Golden Age of Horror
We've spoken about the various fun movies of the '80s like Back To The Future and Indiana Jones, but we have yet to talk about the '80s was arguably the best decade for #horror. Films like Halloween 2, Friday The 13th, Jaws, Aliens and The Thing all came out in the '80s, and are all now considered classics. Stranger Things could be considered as a horror #TV show and it makes perfect sense for them to pay homage to the greats that came before it! In Season 1 we see an Evil Dead poster on Jonathan's wall, so maybe in Season 2 we could see more posters for horror classics.
6. Arcade Games
The Stranger Things kids seem like the perfect age to love arcade games, such as Pacman, Tetris and Donkey Kong. In Season 2, I think it would be awesome to see the kids have a regular hang-out spot like the arcades. Or better yet, it would be awesome if one of the kids buy a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)!
There's no doubt that Season 2 of Stranger Things has a lot of expectations on its shoulders, but I'm so excited to see the gang back together again in the incredible adventures. Season 2 might have none of these references or it might have them all; either way they'll definitely have fantastic homages to the olden days and satisfy fans. I think out of all these awesome '80s references, the one I'd love to see the most is a nod to the mega-franchise Star Wars. There's no denying the influence the force-wielding Jedi's had in the '80s and it would be great to see Stranger Things acknowledge that.
Let me know what '80s references you want to see in Season 2 of Stranger Things!
