In what will definitely go down in history as one of the most polarizing #Oscar wins of all-time, #SuicideSquad picked up an Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The award went to Alessandro Bertolazzi, Giorgio Gregorini, and Christopher Nelson, who beat off competition from films such as Star Trek Beyond and A Man Called Ove. Accepting the Oscar, Bertolazzi announced that, “This is for all the immigrants.”
While it was well-deserved, because Suicide Squad's makeup was incredible, the film's critical reception had most of us convinced that it couldn't pull off a win. But the impossible happened, and that puts it ahead of other superhero films like The Dark Knight Rises which — despite being much more well-received by both fans and critics — didn't even get nominated for an Academy Award back in 2012.
As always, the internet has plenty to say about the shocking win as social media has exploded with reactions from fans — ranging from anger to joy to downright hilarity. Let's take a look at some of the best tweets from Oscar viewers:

As you can see from the endless list of tweets, the reaction to Suicide Squad's Oscar win was almost as polarizing as the film itself. Whether you agree with the controversial outcome or not, it's still a heck of a lot of fun trekking through social media to see how elated some fans are and how genuinely shocked others are. The #Oscars isn't usually a place for comic book fans, but this year, it is that genre of film that has the world talking. Could this herald in a new era for #superheroes at the event?
So the next time you hear someone throwing shade at Suicide Squad, you can now turn around and correct them with "Excuse me, you mean the Oscar winning Suicide Squad?" Yes, the film was reviled by the critics, but that didn't stop it from this monumental achievement. Moreover, despite the reviews, the makeup and hairstyling was one of the film's strongest points — so if it was going to win any Oscar, you can see why it won that one. As a fan of the film, I'm thrilled that it won, as it not only deserved the award, but it overcame all the adversity to do so.
