Riverdale gave a radical spin to the Archie comics, dropping the source material's campy and uplifting nature in favor of a grittier approach that puts Archie and his gang of quirky friends right in the middle of a crime drama. As a result, our main characters were forced to deal with some pretty difficult situations in Season 1.

Their journey is expected to continue in a few months as the group prepares to face off against the seemingly vicious Sugar Man (whoever that is) in Season 2. Fortunately for Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead though, one unexpected guest recently dropped by to brighten up their world at least for a little while.

Veronica, Betty, Meet The Girl of Steel

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa took to social media to post a picture of Melissa Benoist in full Supergirl attire, hanging out with (a.k.a. Veronica) and (a.k.a. Betty) on the Riverdale set:

As if that wasn't awesome enough, Aguirre-Sacasa teased a possible crossover in the caption:

"Look who dropped in to for a quick visit! Worlds colliding! Can a crossover be far behind??"

Wait, what?! Is Supergirl actually coming to Riverdale? Well, there are two ways to look at the situation, so let's take a deep breath here. First of all, seeing on set isn't technically that weird, because Riverdale and Supergirl are both filmed in Vancouver. Plus, the actress is a fan of the show, and she even visited the cast last year to wish them good luck:

Seeing things from that perspective, one could argue Benoist just dropped by to say hi once again in Aguirre-Sacasa's picture.

But What If Supergirl Is Actually Appearing On Riverdale?

We also have to consider how on the nose the showrunner was about a possible crossover. That makes me think there was more to the photo than just a simple friendly visit. I know, I know, picturing a in Archie's new, gritty world sounds insane. The biggest concern may be whether she would feel out of place in the show. While that's a possibility, an appearance from Kara also has the chance to work.

Most may remember the Archie comics as simple stories about a group of milkshake-loving teenagers dealing with romantic woes, but their adventures could get pretty insane. Archie's encountered comic book and sci-fi characters like the Punisher, the Predator, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He's fought zombies, and he even became a space-based superhero at one point.

Despite its more somber vibe, won't shy away from the comic books' wackier elements moving forward. The biggest pieces of evidence for that are the impending arrival of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and the fact that supernatural elements will probably be introduced moving forward. Taking those things into account, an appearance from Supergirl wouldn't feel out of place at all.

Now, keep in mind that doesn't mean Riverdale will be part of the if the Girl of Steel ever lands at Pop's. Her cameo doesn't have to be a big deal story-wise, she could just be part of a dream sequence or something similar that doesn't affect continuity.

As a huge fan of both shows, I would love to see Kara meet up with Archie and his friends. Riverdale returns for Season 2 on October 11, 2017. Supergirl will fly back onto TV screens for her third season on October 9, 2017.

Do you think Supergirl will make her presence felt in Riverdale? Would you like that to happen, or would you like Kara to remain in National City? Let me know in the comments!
