, , and have all proven that being over 50 need not bar someone from starring in an action movie. , now 52, looks set to emerge as an unlikely fugitive in a new thriller being tipped as the first in a franchise. The director of Taken, , has signed on for the next kick-ass action movie, The Gunman.
No, it's not another sequel to Taken, but according to The Hollywood Reporter Morel is in talks to direct the movie based on the novel by , with Penn in the lead. I just hope Penn likes to run as if he's a limber 23-year-old.
The movie follows in an international operative who is double-crossed by the people he works for and has to go on the run to clear his name, sending him on a thrilling game of cat-and-mouse all across Europe.
So it's Taken, but instead of getting taken, Sean Penn gets had.
This will be Penn's first major outing in the action genre. Neeson was already a bad-ass before Morel directed him in Taken. It's undeniable, however, that Taken really shot Neeson into the stratosphere, doing awesomely at the box office all over the globe. Undoubtedly, Morel will probably soon be the go-to guy for older thesps who want to give their careers a makeover.
Seeing Penn in this sort of actioner is unexpected to say the least, but I'm certain that he'll bring his usual authenticity to the role. That and Morel will make him suitably tough.
Prone Gunman is scheduled to begin shooting this spring, so we'll likely see a release sometime next year. Is this movie already a box office hit?
