As you might have noticed some time ago, the Lt. James "Rhodey" Rhodes in the last two Iron Man movies is not the same as the Rhodey we got in the first. For reasons initially undisclosed, was brought on to replace for Iron Man 2. Now it appears Howard is being very vocal about precisely what happened, and who is directly responsible (in his view) for his firing.
During an appearance on Bravo's Watch What Happens, as relayed by Vulture, Howard pointed the finger directly at Iron Man star . Here's what he said...
"It turns out that the person that I helped become Iron Man, when it was time to re-up for the second one, took the money that was supposed to go to me and pushed me out. We did a three-picture deal. They came to me with the second and said 'look, we will pay you one-eighth of what we contractually had for you, because we think the second one will be successful with or without you.' And I called my friend, that I helped get the first job, and he didn't call me back for three months."
So not only does Howard blame Robert Downey Jr. for his own dismissal from the franchise, he goes so far as to take credit for the actor landing the dream role in the first place? Wow. I am not buying that he is responsible for RDJ's hiring, but I do wholeheartedly believe that a salary dispute is what sent Howard out the door. Now whether Marvel actually behaved as shadily as he asserts, it's difficult to say.
