Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and 12 Monkeys director has been out promoting his latest fantasy sci-fi project The Zero Theorem, and told ComingSoon.com that he wants to take another shot at his longest labor of love, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. He said:
I'm going to try to do Don Quixote again. I think this is the seventh time. Lucky seven, maybe. We'll see if it happens. This is kind of my default position, going back to that. I actually just want to make it and get rid of it. Get it out of my life.
Production on Gilliam's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote actually began many moons ago in 2000, and was meant to star as the titular protagonist and see in the role of Sancho Panza.
Just last year, in 2012, we reported that Disney were moving forward with an untitled Don Quixote project to be scripted by High Fidelity's and The Blues Brothers' . It was set to be produced by Depp's production company Infinitum Nihil and to be a re-imagining of the classic tale.
So...if Gilliam is really trying for the hundredth time to bring his version of this project to the big-screen, then what happens to that Disney's Depp-centric endeavor? And will Gilliam acquire Depp's involvement again?
