It looks like the end of the world has only just begun for Clarke, Bellamy and the rest of the survivors, as The 100 has been renewed by The CW for a fifth season. The renewal comes only a few weeks after the debut of the post-apocalyptic drama's fourth season.
Based on the popular #youngadult novel series, The 100 centers around a group of young prisoners who were sent to Earth to test its atmosphere 97 years after a nuclear apocalypse. But they soon find out that while the atmosphere may be safe, the planet is not.
The 100 is one of The CW's most critically acclaimed shows, and also manages to consistently pull in strong numbers. Moreover, the show also has a strong online fanbase who never fail to voice their passion and reactions through social media — in many ways, it is like The CW's version of The Walking Dead, as it isn't afraid to kill off popular characters in order to highlight how barbaric this apocalyptic new world is.

It's safe to say that the network's 2017-2018 schedule is shaping up, as The 100 will now join Arrow, The Flash, Legends Of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Supernatural, Jane the Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and fellow mid-season series Riverdale — all of which have been renewed by the network. Decisions have yet to be made on other shows such as The Originals, iZombie, Frequency and No Tomorrow. And both Reign and the iconic Vampire Diaries are set to bow out with their final seasons this month.
With the majority of its fourth season still left to air, fans can rest assured that there is still no end in sight for the beloved series. The 100's fifth season renewal just highlights how popular the show is with both fans and critics, and it will now join an equally strong lineup of shows set to return next season. Clarke may get used to this brave new world, because it certainly isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
