is currently locked away in the dungeon over at Marvel HQ furiously scribbling down ideas for The Avengers: Age Of Ultron. He was recently allowed out for his daily dose of fresh air and gave an interview to Yahoo Movies, teasing about two new characters that will appear in the superhero ensemble sequel, revealing:
I've got these two characters, two of my favorite characters from the comic books; a brother/sister act. They’re in the movie, that’s exciting.
Probably the most well-known siblings from the Marvel comics is Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, better known as Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. The dynamic duo actually appeared first in the X-Men comics, before graduating to the Avengers and are the offspring of Magneto. Could this be the brother/sister act that Whedon is getting so excited about it?
The only obstacle that could hinder Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver appearing in The Avengers 2 is the question of rights ownership. They originated in the X-Men comics, which would normally mean that 20th Century Fox owns the rights. However Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige revealed last year that both 20th Century Fox and Marvel have legal access to the characters, so the kick-ass siblings would be free to appear in The Avengers 2 as long as they don't reference anything about X-Men. We could be left with the very real possibility of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch having an origin story but without being able to mention their Dad. Awkward.
Of course all this could just be Whedon being a big ol' tease, offering us fans big juicy red herrings to munch down on.
What do you guys think? Would you like to see Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch show up in The Avengers 2?
