It seems that FX know a good show when they see it: American Horror Story has been renewed for a fourth season. Creators and Brad Falchuk must be grinning all over right now, as they've not only secured another 13-episode season, but the admiration of network CEO, John Landgraf. The FX head honcho said:
Put simply, Ryan Murphy is a master television producer. Time and time again he reinvents the form. What he, co-creator Brad Falchuk...the entire production team and cast responsible for the 'American Horror Story' franchise have done is nothing short of extraordinary. Every year, they create a riveting and brilliant new miniseries. 'AHS: Coven' is the best yet, and I have no doubt that the next installment will be even better.
Whilst I can't agree that Coven is the best series yet (Asylum was unbeatable for pitch-perfect grisliness), it's reassuring that American Horror Story is so important to FX. Hardly surprising, as Coven has seen the highest American Horror Story ratings yet, hitting around 7.74 million viewers per episode.
No word yet on whether recurring favorites will reappear in the cast for American Horror Story Season 4, but Grande Dame has signed up for the ride. Murphy said cryptically, 'she's already committed to the fourth series...All I'll say is, Jessica Lange has always wanted to play a Marlene Dietrich figure, and now she gets to.'
Hmmm, can we expect to see Constance/Jude/Fiona reincarnated as some sort of androgynous, smooth-talking Berliner in a tuxedo? I can just picture her with pencil-thin eyebrows and that sexy voice peppered with Teutonic asides...OK, my mind has stopped functioning now.
American Horror Story: Coven continues Wednesday, November 13 with 'The Axeman Cometh'.
