After Frank Castle discovered his love of punishing folk in the second season of Daredevil, Marvel fans were overjoyed to hear that The Punisher would continue to defend New York City in his own solo Netflix show that airs in November. However, a new teaser promoting The Defenders suggests that Jon Bernthal may pull the trench coat back on even sooner than we thought — well, if living legend Stan Lee is to be believed, that is.

The Most Impressive Stan Lee Cameo Of All

In the build-up to The Defenders, Netflix Korea have released a new teaser that positions Marvel creator Stan Lee in the heart of New York City where he belongs. From the streets of Queens in Spider-Man: Homecoming to the depths of space in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2., Lee has starred in a plethora of cameo appearances dotted across the MCU, but never before has he taken a starring role like this one.

The clip in question follows Stan Lee as he drives around various quarters of NYC, as if he was always there in the background of each Netflix show. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist all appear in footage taken from each of their solo ventures, intercut with clips from The Defenders trailer that was recently released. Even though he didn't create all of these characters himself, Lee is the founding father of Marvel in many ways, so it's fitting to see his influence extend here to a physical presence in the four shows based on the comics so far.

However, as Lee's time among The Defenders comes to a close, the teaser ends with a surprise appearance from The Punisher in full costume, which could hint at some startling developments in the . Iron Fist can't have all the fun dressing up, right?

"Looks like I got here just in time."

Just as we thought The Defenders would have a hard enough time fighting Alexandra while squabbling among themselves, it seems as though Marvel may have thrown into the mix too. Of course, this new clip of Bernthal's vigilante in action could also be our first glimpse of The Punisher in his own TV show, but the editing of this teaser certainly seems engineered to raise our hopes that Castle will appear on The Defenders, come August 18.

This isn't the first time that fans have suspected The Punisher's involvement in The Defenders, but official confirmation still eludes us, stealthily slinking from our grasp like ninjas from The Hand. Of course, if Castle doesn't end up sparring with or shooting bullets off Luke Cage's chest in , then fans will just have to wait until The Punisher's own show blasts its way onto Netflix on November 14. And don't forget to keep an eye out for . He's always there, ever watching.
