Jose Prendes, helmer of The Haunting of Whaley House, and his production company Dual Visions have just revealed that the writer/director's next project will take the form of 'the serial killer fever dream The Divine Tragedies'.
The premise of the film sounds pretty awesome if the director's personal comparisons are to be trusted. Prendes described the new horror as a combination of: 'American Psycho meets Videodrome, by way of John Carpenter' which sounds damn good to me.
The synopsis of The Divine Tragedies, is also reminiscent of Hitchcock's 1948 film Rope, which is also based on a true story. It see's a pair of intellectuals plot to murder their supposedly 'intellectually inferior' friend and later invite his acquaintances to a soiree that evening, as a way to test their intellectual prowess.
Getting back to the _Divine Tragedies, the plot is:
Based loosely on the famous Leopold and Loeb murder case of 1924, it tells the tale of Charles Brubaker (Graham Denman) and his half-brother Thomas Lo Bianco (Jon Kondelik), who concoct a deadly game to test their superior intelligence against the dimwitted masses. This game will eventually lead to murder, and when Genevieve, a beautiful single mother, enters their lives they finally find the perfect girl for their first kill. But, problems arise when they quickly discover that Detective Homer Gaul, a cop with a very special gift, is hot on their trail.
The very first image for The Divine Tragedies is also circulating, which we picked up via Joblo:
