The Season 3 finale of The Flash was definitely an emotional rollercoaster that left us with many questions. H.R.'s fate crushed us all while Barry's ultimate sacrifice took us by surprise. And while it may have left us dazed and confused about the show's future, it only increased our excitement for Season 4.
While the creative team had been very silent about Barry's role in Season 4, it was eventually confirmed that Grant Gustin's Scarlet Speedster would return in an episode that is expected to pay tribute to the legendary "Rebirth" storyline from the comics.
While a recently released preview gave us a glimpse of Barry's return and his grizzled appearance, now The CW have released a brand new trailer for the show's fourth season, which seems to reveal how Barry returns from the Speed Force. Check it out below:
Following on from the San Diego Comic-Con trailer and the mini preview, this trailer once again focuses on Iris's determination to hold the team together in her fiancee's absence. But it appears that Barry begins to send messages from the Speed Force in the form of unexplained events, which eventually prompts Cisco to finally rescue him.
Whether his attempts are completely successful or not, the trailer does indeed show us another brief glimpse of a bearded Barry Allen — free from the Speed Force. Moreover, as he regains consciousness, we see a shot of a cloaked mannequin, which is undoubtedly the brand new Flash suit that Barry will don during Season 4.
Guess Who's Back?
Alongside the trailer, The CW have also released brand new promotional shots for the Season 4 premiere "Reborn". While many of the photos are taken from scenes we already know about, one of them gives us another new look at the reborn Barry Allen.
Much like in the trailer, Iris, Joe, Wally, Cisco, Caitlin and Cecile are in the Central City Police Department as they greet a very different-looking Barry. But while things look promising in the new photo, the trailer suggests that this reunion may not go as hoped. The question is: will Barry be too traumatized by what happened in the Speed Force to remember them?
Best Served Cold
After her rampage as Savitar's henchwoman, Killer Frost did the right thing and saved her former friends from the God of Speed. However, while her allegiances had shifted back to Team Flash, she still refused to take the cure, and thus, remained frosty, as she departed the team for good. This left us wondering whether or not she would return for Season 4. But thankfully, actress Danielle Panabaker will be back as a series regular.
While the Comic-Con trailer revealed that she is practically a Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost hybrid, it didn't give us any idea about what she had been up to in the six months that passed, and what "finding herself" really entailed. But these new photos suggest that she has been spending her time behind Central City's shady bar, serving (probably chilled) drinks to disreputable customers.
Sporting a Black Siren-like collar and grey vest, this new Caitlin has rid herself of Killer Frost's white hair and returned to her natural color. However, her skin remains pale, suggesting that the frosty demon within is still below the surface.
Judging by the photos, Cisco reaches out to her for help. But based on that icy glare, it doesn't seem like she's pleased to see her old friend.
Thus, we have to wonder: will Caitlin help Team Flash bring Barry back, or will she continue to give them the cold shoulder?
Kid Flash And Vibe Team Up
By now, the vast majority of us know that one of the Season 4 premiere's biggest scenes will involve a showdown between the super sword-wielding villain and the team of Kid Flash and Vibe. But the new photos have given us some pretty cool shots of the two #superheroes and the new villain.
While they may come up short in the battle, it's hard to overlook just how good Kid Flash and Vibe look together. Having finally utilized the full extent of his powers last season, it's great that Cisco is hitting the streets this season to help Wally in Barry's absence.
Both of them underwent extremely personal and harrowing journeys during Season 3, and it's only fitting that they get some time to shine with their heroics in the season premiere.
The photos also give us a closer look at the mysterious sword-wielding villain. Covered from head to toe in body armor and wearing a rather haunting black mask, we do know that the unknown assailant wants to duel with The Flash. So Cisco and Team Flash had better hope they can pull Barry from the Speed Force before the swordsman tears Central City apart.
With the Season 4 premiere of The Flash less than a month away, both the new trailer and photos have given us a taste of what we can expect from the Scarlet Speedster's rebirth. With Team Flash seemingly responsible for pulling him out of the Speed Force, we have to wonder if his time away did him more harm than good, and if a new suit will be enough to give The Flash the strength to defeat the mysterious sword-wielding villain.
