The Flash Season 3 will see the characters we know and love in new iterations, after Barry's timeline reset has changed everything we thought we knew about the people of Central City. The trailers have revealed that some The Flash Season 3 characters will be radically different from how they were before, while others remain a mystery. Here's everything we know about The Flash Season 3 cast and characters so far.
Barry Allen / The Flash (Grant Gustin)
Leading Team Flash — and the show — is Grant Gustin as Barry Allen. Season 3 will see Barry living out the life he always dreamed of, with both of his parents alive and Central City in the safe hands of Kid Flash. But will he make the choice to reset the timeline?
Where have I seen Grant Gustin before? Gustin's breakout role was on Glee, as he played the charming but devious Sebastian Smythe. Gustin also has a background in musical theater, which will help with the upcoming musical crossover episode with Supergirl.
Iris West (Candice Patton)
A crucial part of the Flash story, Iris West is Barry's longterm love interest. On The Flash TV show, Iris is an intrepid reporter and an important member of Team Flash. Season 3 might change all that, though — so far we have no idea how this version of Iris differs from the one we know and love, but from the trailers it seems that she has no idea who Barry is.
Where have I seen Candice Patton before? Before The Flash, Patton appeared on the drama The Game, with recurring roles in other shows such as Heroes and Man Up. Her Twitter is also well worth checking out...
Cisco Ramon / Vibe (Carlos Valdes)
Starting out as a humble scientist, Cisco's character development up to The Flash Season 3 was very enjoyable to watch. Veering between adorably nerdy to gloriously snarky, Cisco is one of the most interesting characters on the show — and only got more interesting when it was revealed in Season 2 that the particle accelerator explosion turned him into a metahuman. Cisco's powers as Vibe will be explored in Season 3.
Where have I seen Carlos Valdes before? Valdes' role on The Flash is actually his first acting job, but you may have caught him singing in his band, Tha Los...
This musical talent will certainly come in handy in the Supergirl crossover.
Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker)
Caitlin has come a long way from when we first met her in Season 1, grief-stricken at the apparent death of her fiance. Since then, she's helped defeat many villains, facing off against Grodd and surviving Zoom's torment. On Earth-2, Caitlin is a villain herself, going by the name of Killer Frost. And it looks like, thanks to Flashpoint, Caitlin may become Killer Frost again in The Flash Season 3, specifically in the episode directed by Kevin Smith.
Where have I seen Danielle Panabaker before? Panabaker appeared in the teen superhero movie Sky High, as the plant-controlling Layla. She's also had roles in several independent films, and appeared on TV shows such as Bones and Mad Men.
Harrison Wells / Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanagh)
Harrison Wells is a complex character, and in Season 1 he wasn't even Harrison Wells at all. The man masquerading as the mentor of Team Flash turned out to be the foe they'd been fighting all along — Eobard Thawne a.k.a. the Reverse Flash. Season 2 saw Cavanagh return as the real Harrison Wells, this time from Earth-2. After Flashpoint, it is not yet confirmed whether Cavanagh will be portraying Earth-2 Wells, or the original Earth-1 Wells (having not been killed by Thawne). However, we do know Cavanagh is part of The Flash Season 3 cast.
Where have I seen Tom Cavanagh before? Best known for his role as the eponymous character in the TV show Ed, Cavanagh also played JD's brother in Scrubs, as well as taking supporting roles in many other shows
Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin)
As Barry's surrogate father, Joe has a prominent role in The Flash, as he balances his work as a police detective with working with Team Flash and protecting his children, Iris and Wally. Season 3 will see Joe in a slightly different role — still a detective, but unaware of who Barry is. We don't yet know if Joe knows that Wally is the hero Kid Flash.
KWhere have I seen Jesse L. Martin before? Martin's best-known role is Ed Green on the TV show Law and Order, but he's also appeared in several other TV shows and films. You may also have caught him as Tom Collins in the musical movie Rent.K
Wally West / Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale)
Joining The Flash in Season 2, Wally was a disruptive element at first, as the estranged son of Joe West. He quickly went from a disillusioned adrenaline-junkie to a valued member of Team Flash, and his character development has been really enjoyable to watch. Season 3 will see Wally take on a much more prominent role, as he is the speedster hero Kid Flash thanks to the Flashpoint timeline reset. Promo pics from episode one of Season 3 revealed Flash and Kid Flash working together.
Where have I seen Keiynan Lonsdale before? Lonsdale's breakout role was in the TV show Dance Academy, and he recently appeared in the movie Insurgent.
Henry Allen / Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp)
Wrongly convicted of his wife's murder, Henry Allen spent Season 1 and part of Season 2 in prison, until Thawne's confession of the murder (attributed to his disguise as Wells) gave Barry the evidence he needed to free his father. Henry subsequently spent some time away from Barry — not wanting to distract his son from his role as the Flash — and returned in the Season 2 finale only to be killed by Zoom. The finale also revealed Shipp's other role as the Earth-3 Flash, Jay Garrick. Henry Allen will appear in Season 3, now that Barry has reset the timeline.
Where have I seen John Wesley Shipp before? Shipp is best known for his role as Barry Allen in the 1990 The Flash TV show. He also played a supporting role on Dawson's Creek and has appeared in many other TV shows, such as Teen Wolf.
Julian Dorn (Tom Felton)
A new character for The Flash Season 3, Julian Dorn has been described as something of a rival for Barry, mistrusting Barry's "nice-guy routine". Julian will work with Barry in the CSI department of the Central City Police Department, and will be hiding some secrets of his own.
Where have I seen Tom Felton before? Made famous by his role as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter, Felton also appeared in the prequel movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
The Rival (Todd Lasance)
The Rival is a new speedster villain for The Flash Season 3, clad in black and causing problems during Flashpoint. The Rival's comic book origins are interesting, as he was the Golden Era version of the Reverse Flash.
Where have I seen Todd Lasance before? Lasance got his big break in the movie Spartacus: War of the Damned.
Sam Scudder / Mirror Master (Grey Damon)
As one of the Rogues, Mirror Master's appearance on The Flash is considered by many fans to be long overdue. Although he isn't a metahuman, Mirror Master uses his chemically altered mirrors to fantastic effect, creating duplicates of himself to plague the Flash, and even traveling to alternate dimensions. Scudder previously appeared in the 1990 TV show The Flash, facing John Wesley Shipp's version of Barry Allen.
Where have I seen Grey Damon before? Appearing in TV shows like True Blood and Aquarius, Damon also portrayed Chris Rodriguez in Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
Rosa Dillon / The Top (Ashley Rickards)
Another one of the Rogues, the Top possesses the metahuman ability to spin fast enough to deflect bullets and create a cyclone, while also creating many gadget spinning tops with various uses. In the comics, the Top is male, but the CW have chosen to reimagine the character as a woman. The fact that two Rogues have been cast for The Flash Season 3 have lead some to speculate that we might finally see the villainous team come together, as they did in the comics, to present a united front against the Flash.
Where have I seen Ashley Rickards before? Rickards has appeared in many TV shows, from One Tree Hill to the recent Awkward. She also appeared in the music video for The Fray's "How To Save A Life".
Dr Carla Tannhauser (Susan Walters)
After learning about how Caitlin's mother had a negative affect on her self esteem growing up — leading to the Earth-2 Caitlin to become Killer Frost — we're finally going to meet the woman herself in Season 3. Will her arrival prompt the Flashpoint Caitlin to turn to a villainous role too?
Where have I seen Susan Walters before? Walters has had a long acting career, appearing mainly in TV shows. Most recently, she portrayed Lydia Martin's mother in Teen Wolf, and she was also in How To Get Away With Murder.
Frances Kane / Magenta (Joey King)
With the metahuman power to manipulate magnetic fields and metal, Frances Kane was Wally West's childhood friend and girlfriend. After their breakup, she resurfaced several years later as a villain, her powers having gone to her head, and with a warped memory of her time with Wally — she blamed him for their split, despite the fact that she initiated it. Her arrival will surely complicate things for Wally in The Flash Season 3.
Where have I seen Joey King before? A newcomer on the scene, King nevertheless has several prolific roles under her belt. She voiced an animated character in the movie Oz the Great and Powerful, and also appeared in the critically acclaimed TV series Fargo.
