While fans don't know much about The Flash's fourth season, we can be certain that the premiere episode, "The Flash Reborn," will have a major impact on the remainder of the season. After the shocking Season 3 finale, we were left with a lot of questions. So you can bet that we'll be tuning into the Season 4 premiere in October to get some much-needed answers.
But now we have another reason to check out the Season 4 premiere, as a recurring Season 1 villain will make her return to the show. And that villain is none other than Peek-a-Boo.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Britne Oldford is reprising her villainous role in The Flash's Season 4 premiere. The actress, who also starred in American Horror Story: Asylum, portrayed Shawna Baez/Peek-a-Boo during two episodes of the #TV show's first season. And her return raises some important questions, particularly about her role — especially since we haven't seen her in over two years.
Note: Spoilers for The Flash Season 3 and potential spoilers for Season 4 will follow.
What Is Peek-A-Boo's Role In The Season 4 Premiere?
After Barry Allen disappeared into the realm of the Speed Force in the Season 3 finale, Central City found itself without a Scarlet Speedster. With Wally West stepping up (in more ways than one) Team Flash will still have their hands full now that they are without their primary speedster. Furthermore, the synopsis for the season premiere revealed that they will be devoting a lot of their time to searching for Barry. Thus, we have to wonder: Why has Peek-a-boo returned for the episode?
Shawna Baez first appeared in the Season 1 episode "Crazy For You" in which she used her teleportation powers to rob an armored truck. After her defeat, she was imprisoned in the S.T.A.R. Labs pipeline and nicknamed Peek-a-Boo by Caitlin Snow. She would eventually reappear in "Rogue Air" when she was freed by Captain Cold and Golden Glider. She has been on the loose ever since.
As she disappeared on the Flash's watch, perhaps she is being brought back to give Wally West a major contender to overcome. After all, her metahuman abilities ensure that she is a force to be reckoned with and she came very close to killing the Flash during her first appearance. If Wally were to take down the one villain that got away from Barry Allen, he would solidify himself as a hero worthy of the Flash mantle.
Furthermore, Beaz also has history with Caitlin Snow, whom Beaz nearly killed for locking her away. With Caitlin having transformed into a somewhat less villainous version of Killer Frost, it's possible that we could finally see these two ladies collide in an epic showdown. Now, that would be an amazing sight.
Whether she is the episode's primary villain or just there for a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance (literally), you can bet that it will be up to Wally West to take down the illusive Shawna Baez. On that note, it's nice to see The Flash returning to form with its villain choices this season. After last season's depressing tone, a return to Season 1 is exactly what the show needs. Welcome back, Peek-a-Boo.
