With a lifetime of kung fu classics, unworldly stunts and an honorary Oscar behind him, it's nice to see that Jackie Chan is still kicking major ass. The action icon ceases to slow down, and his new thriller, The Foreigner, is a bold new direction — with Chan demonstrating a skill-set like Liam Neeson's in Taken. Check out the trailer below:
The film is helmed by Goldeneye and Casino Royale director #MartinCampbell and based on the 1992 novel The Chinaman. It stars #JackieChan and former James Bond #PierceBrosnan. The film centers on Chinatown restaurant owner Quan (Jackie Chan) who loses his daughter in an IRA terrorist bombing in London. After government officials neglect the case, Quan takes matters into his own hands ... Punisher style.
How The Foreigner Is Different From Other Jackie Chan Movies
Although The Foreigner appears to have ass-kicking and awesome stunts, don’t expect a full-on martial arts tale. Jackie Chan's approach here is more dramatic. Having a daughter of his own, Chan is playing the role with complete seriousness. The action thriller looks more like his previous classics like Crime Story than comedies such as Rush Hour.
The Foreigner could be another hit for Martin Campbell, since the action feels more in his Bond wheelhouse — it doesn't resemble his failed Green Lantern at all. Jackie Chan is guaranteed to shine, and Pierce Brosnan has the chance to make a memorable villain. Let's start the hype train now.
The Foreigner will be released October 13, 2017.
