Baz Luhrmann’s energetic musical drama about the origins of NYC hip hop returns to for a second season. Check out The Get Down Part II trailer:

The first season of The Get Down, which ran tight at just six episodes, had the feel of a couple long films stitched together. There were advantages and drawbacks to that approach, and this trailer suggests that Part II, which also runs six episodes, will have a similar feel.

This also suggests the show will maintain the lavish style of the first season, which reportedly came with a whopping price tag of about $16m per episode.

The Get Down Part II picks up a year after the events of the first season. The new music of hip hop is starting to play loud in the Bronx even as disco enjoys the height of its popularity elsewhere in the city and the world at large.

Netflix calls the show,

A mythic saga of dreams, desire, soul and sound, The Get Down chronicles the epic musical evolution from disco to hip hop that defined 1970s New York City - as told by the relationships, struggles, triumphs, and artistry of the South Bronx teens who saw it through.

The Get Down Part II will be streaming on Netflix on April 7.
