With a budget of $561 million (and rising), 's Hobbit trilogy - comprised of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies - is the most expensive filmmaking endeavor...EVER!

According to a recent report from Deadline, the budget is already over the half billion dollar mark - and that doesn't even include post-production work needed on the last two movies.

Although The Hobbit trilogy is shot in many of the same locations in New Zealand as the Lord of the Rings trilogy was, it seems as though Petey has really gone to town with the special effects on this one, with 3D and 48 frames per second jazzing up our big-screens.

So, Mr. Jackson - The Desolation of Smaug had better be good!

Are you looking forward to seeing what The Desolation of Smaug offers when the movie is released on December 13? Let me know below.
