It's official, folks! Jennifer Lawrence's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire just became the biggest box office smash of 2013 in the US and Canada, hitting around $409 million in ticket sales, Lionsgate have revealed.

The young adult movie, which appeals to a massively broad audience, came in just a touch ahead of Shane Black's Iron Man 3, which is still the highest grossing movie on a global scale and is still ahead of Catching Fire overseas.

This may not sound like a big deal, but Catching Fire's success marks the first time a female-led movie has topped the box-office chart since Julie Andrews serenaded us sweetly in The Sound of Music... Perhaps this is the evidence Hollywood needs that women can be just as much the action stars as men.

What do you guys think? Does The Hunger Games: Catching Fire deserve to take the place of top-grossing movie of 2013? Sorry, Tony Stark, the odds were in Katniss' favor.
