Even people who know hardly anything about Star Trek, know about the Klingons. Their uniquely violent approach to diplomacy, plus their uniquely weird foreheads have been a Star Trek staple throughout the series. Now however, they look set to return in ' Star Trek Into Darkness.
It has long been speculated that the warrior race would be making an appearance in the next Abrams Star Trek movie. However, following advanced screenings, Geek Tyrant have officially confirmed their inclusion. Their appearance has also resolved one Trekkie debate: whether they will have their trademark forehead ridges, as per the newer Star Trek series and films, or whether they'll go without as they did in the 1960s original. Silas Lesnick from ComingSoon.net tweeted:
We've seen Klingons! They do have forehead ridges but with ornamental piercings and facial hair out of the original series!— silaslesnick (@silaslesnick) December 10, 2012
However, it is still unclear how large a role they'll play. Another tweet from Lesnick suggests it might be rather small:
There are 14 Klingon characters in the film, but only two have speaking roles and are the only ones to remove their helmets.— silaslesnick (@silaslesnick) December 10, 2012
Perhaps we shouldn't read too much into that? The Klingons usually value actions over words. The Klingons were supposed to appear in Abrams' 2009 Star Trek, however their scene was cut. If you want to get a look at how they may appear in Star Trek Into Darkness, check out the deleted scene here.
