Prepare for a chance of a lifetime. Hell, prepare for sensational news. A shining new era is tiptoeing nearer, now that we've discovered Disney are resurrecting an iconic villain from The Lion King — and no, we're not talking about Ed or Shenzi.
In an upcoming episode of The Lion Guard, it looks like Scar will finally be given his dues, miraculously returning from the dead following his brutal death in The Lion King. However, after decades of denial, it doesn't look like we'll see Scar return as the king undisputed.
How Will Scar Return In The Lion Guard?
In the fifth episode of The Lion Guard Season 2, aptly titled 'Rise of Scar', Simba's son Kion accidentally brings Scar back to life after using the Roar of the Elders. This powerful gift was bestowed upon Kion by the Great Kings of the Past in order to help him lead the pride — because, Disney.
No worries though. Instead of raising a decrepit, zombie-like Scar who claws his way up from underground, The Lion Guard will instead depict Simba's Uncle as a spirit who resides in the flames of a volcano. So, it's basically like when Mufasa appears in the clouds, but less fluffy and more flaming.
Unfortunately, Jeremy Irons won't be reprising the role of Scar in The Lion Guard, even though his voice remains a purrrfect fit for the evil lion. Instead, Golden Globe-nominated actor David Oyelowo will kickstart the coup of the century, replacing Irons on the show. While it's a shame that we won't see Irons return, be prepared for Oyelowo to channel his work in a brand new song for the show titled 'I Have A Plan', which presumably involves Scar hanging around canyons, looking all shifty.
Will David Oyelowo Voice Scar In The Lion King Remake?
We may know who's voicing Scar upon his return in The Lion Guard, but what remains unclear is who will play Simba's evil Uncle in The Lion King live-action reboot. Director Jon Favreau has assembled an impressive cast so far, bringing back James Earl Jones alongside new faces such as Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner and John Oliver, who will voice Simba, Pumbaa, Timon and Zazu respectively.
Recently, rumors about Hugh Jackman's involvement began to circle around the Pride Lands, suggesting that the retired Wolverine could rediscover his claws in The Lion King reboot. Unfortunately, Jackman's representatives officially threw this idea out to the hyenas, claiming that there was no truth to them. However, if #Disney and Jackman somehow come to reach an understanding, then at least we know that Hugh will be prepared.
Failing that, it's entirely possible that Oyelowo could step from the shadowy place and into the light, joining Favreau's already impressive cast if his performance on The Lion Guard is well received. Perhaps Oyelowo's casting in the role of Scar could be the royal addition that will make the circle of life complete.
Are your teeth and ambitions bared? Find out for yourselves whether Oyelowo is worthy to voice Scar in #TheLionKing remake when 'The Rise of Scar' premieres on July 29.
