Well, another red band clip for 's upcoming Olympus Has Fallen has been released, and I am still underwhelmed. Poor . He plays Mike Banning, a (sort of) disgraced Secret Service agent. Somehow, despite the fact they have trained for this for years, Banning, the rest of the Secret Service force, and police find themselves completely outmatched and outwitted by terrorists who show up on the doorstep of the White House and manage to blast their way inside to kidnap the President. Of course, Banning becomes the lone man who can stop them.

You know where we've seen this premise before? Yippie-ki-yay, I bet you can. And if you can't, I'll tell you: Every action movie ever. Anyway, check out the clip. There are explosions. A LOT of explosions. And a lot of dust. And screaming people. And...well, just watch:

Gerard, Gerard, what are you doing? Don't get me wrong, I WANT to see Butler's career resurrected. Even with him going all off the rails for a while there, he's endeared himself to me ever since P.S. I Love You (Ladies, you feel me). I'm just not sure this is the way to do it. Formulaic action movies can be fine for a career, if that career is already well-established. But he needs a smarter action movie along the lines of 300, not this tired and clich├ęd amalgamation of every action movie we've ever seen.
